Oct-27 Science

join AIM chatroom ''October ACT''

The science section should have been outlawed. What did you guys put for the one where it was like "How many frames per second is the camera taking at x miles per hour?" This section seriously launched me into a panic. I got 30 on my last one of these and I think the math and science were immensely easier on that one, reading was easier on this one, and english was comparable on both. I AM FOREVER GOING TO BE THE MORTAL ENEMY OF THE SCIENCE SECTION OF THE ACT!!!!!!!!!! That thing in general makes me feel like the biggest idiot in the world because that stuff, in theory, should be easier than all the science you do in a science classroom, but I seem to score abnormally low on science and math on standardized tests. Especially considering the levels of science and math that i have taken throughout high school. I don't think i'll end up with the 32 i was aiming for. AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Enthalpy was relative to the water..
positive enthalpy LiCl means that the water Gained heat
negative enthalpy Ammonia-whatever means that the water lost heat...
The water solution is your system...it's just a matter of decidng whether or not the reaction was endo (-) or exo (+) with respect to the solution (water). Obviously the ionically bound compound is going to break down into ions in an exothermic reaction. I'm not sure you got that correct rob...the system never 'released' heat per say. It served as the catalyst for the reaction with ammonia though (2nd graph). Basically 1st graph-water heats up, 2nd graph water cools down

We internationals got a different test, or so it seems

yes, you did.

go here and search the page for LiCl for an explanation. You are measuring the temp of the water... just wish I remembered what the second compound was. It was ammonium something, right?

itwas NH something. maybe NH4 or NH4CL one of the two.
but i'm pretty sure i understood it the way you said 1MX. i hope so at least haha. So like the temperature increased because heat was gained. I think that was one of the questions/answers

So is there any other international ACT taker on here?

**** was so hard.

Hey guys yea the science test was ridiculously hard, but I couldnt pinpoint the conflicting viewpoints passage. Do you guys know which one that was?

As other people have been saying, there wasn't one on the October test.

Oh the international edition had a fighting scientists one...it was about a mercury barometer

Ah that makes me feel better because i thought i had created a grid error because i hadn't taken that into account. You know what I mean? I didn't even spot a confilicting viewpoints, but if everybody also says that then I guess I am right

Phoenix I feel just like you do. Standardized tests in general don't do a good job in measuring your achievement. What is worse is that they carry MASSIVE weight with colleges.

what was the answer to the first question? I dont remember what it was but the possible answers were
Increase only
Decrease only
Increase and then decrease
Decrease then increase

increase only i believe

That's what I put, too.

Umm guys can any of you remember all seven passages? If any body could help me remeber them I would be grateful. I remember the following ones:

delta t passage with LiCl

Gene passage

Physics ball passage at end

M1 curves and M2 curves etc, passage

Bog passage and fern swamp passage

What were the other 2??????????????? Note I took the USA national test not the international one.

wasn't the crossover question from "Rr Tt" to what? then it would be Rt Tr ....

the chromosomes ons andddddd.

dang i don't remember other one lol
