Does anyone at USC know about the October Parents Week-end? Specifically, is it just for parents or can you bring the family? What kind of events are planned?

Anyone can go. Each person who wants to attend the scheduled events has to pay the fee (something like $100?) plus any extras (like meals.) The events include sessions like living in the dorms, how to parent a college student, sample lectures from professors, President's address (<--well worth it), etc. I attended many of these sessions for my first son because I couldn't get enough info.

Now (for S#2),we just go to the football game. You don't have to pay the fee for parents' weekend just to go to the game. Make sure you wear cardinal. We have a tradition now of inviting other parents and setting up a pre-game party so S can join in and bring his friends. Some people REALLY get in to these pre-game parties and have elaborate set ups. It really is something you can't miss.

The post below reminds me that frats also usually have a BBQ or something for parents.

This is also the weekend women who have pledged sororities are presented to their parents, friends and family members. These ceremonies take place in the gardens of the chapter houses. New members wear long white dresses and guests are entertained in the reception areas of the chapter houses. It is quite an occasion.

My husband and I hadn't planned to go to Parents' Weekend last fall because we're in the midwest, but I ended up going for sorority "presents" and had a really nice time. But my daughter and I skipped the football game and went to BH for lunch and shopping instead - it's crazy around campus on game days.

what is BH

Beverly Hills

Anyone know the dates of Parents weekend in 2008?

Under Parents page on USC website:

Trojan Parents Weekend 2008
will take place October 10-12!
The Office of Parent Programs looks forward to welcoming you to campus for the 2008 Trojan Parents Weekend, which will take place on Friday October 10 through Sunday October 12. TPW typically begins on Thursday, but a number of factors have led us to concentrate next fall’s event into a shorter format. These factors include the Jewish observance of Yom Kippur on October 9 and limitations on campus space due to the construction of our new Campus Center.

Please visit this webpage again in July for additional information regarding TPW programming and registration. We look forward to seeing you in October!

Thanks bmom. I think it's starting to sink in. My first kid is about to go to college. And it's USC!! Very exciting.

There is quite a bit of info on TWP here, just search. From what I have read, it is a largely useless set of activities, accompanied by tear-jerker events. Perhaps it is just the cynic in me speaking...

^^ wow. cynic indeed. ^^

madbean, we need to start a thread for us anxious parents.
