I need to take one this year because my parents are driving me nuts to taking this test. So now I'm deciding the dates. I'm debating between October and November because it's the beginning of the school year so no stressing over finals, AP tests, winter finals, whatever. I also have fall break starting the second week of october. Should I take it before the break and get it over with or should I take it after so I can study a bit?

So I'm also taking the PSAT. If I take the Oct one, I'm worried I'll get stressed out that I'm fail the PSAT. And if I take the Nov one, I'm worried that I'll slack off like I did last year.

So idk, which one should I pick?

p.s. I want to score above 2200+. And I'm hovering around 2100 right now. To raise that 100+ points, how long would it take?

I’m in the same boat as you. I’m taking the PSAT in October as well. I decided on taking the SAT in November for a couple reasons:

I’m taking the ACT in September, and, after that, I will be studying* for the PSAT in that 5 week period between the ACT and PSAT. After studying for the PSAT and the ACT, I need a little bit of a break.

I will be studying for the SAT after the PSAT and mainly prep for the essay portion of the test until the November date.

*I will be studying for the PSAT using the blue book; therefore, I will be studying for the SAT at the same time, but I still wish to have that little break.

Well it depends on if you want to apply as early as possible. If you do, i’d take the October one. If you don’t, give yourself more time to study and go for the November date.

I’m a rising senior and I took the SAT for the first time in October. I’m really glad I did, because it was great prep for the PSAT and an added incentive to study for it.

If this is your first SAT, October is a nice choice: you can get the test back, and you are studying for the PSAT as well. (The PSAT will probably seem easier because of the reduction in length.)

If you’re a Junior, why Oct/Nov? Why so early, I’d wait till December January, or even March. Anyways, I’d tell your parents to calm down. It sounds like Oct would stress yo out and that’s bad. Do December if you want to take one this year, but I don’t think that’s necessary. And raising 100+ points is doable in a few months (probably less) by doing lots of practice tests.

Ugh, I really think they’re looking at this from the wrong point of you. Anyways if you HAVE to take it in Oct or Nov, take it in November. Hopefully you’ll have your PSAT scores back by then and will know what to work on. (Wait. . . if you’re already around 2100, why would your parents need to know where you stand?) Eh worse you’ll have taken the SAT alot haha.

I would take the October SAT so that you have time to retake it if necessary in December. Also, taking the SAT before the PSAT makes it less stressful.
