Critical Reading Vocabulary: WRY, METAPHOR, MOCKING

Will try to remember more.

What was the question where the answer was redundancy/frustration? What were the other choices? This worries me because I don’t remember that at all. Someone please answer this asap!

same I what was the context/other options with the redundancy/frustration one?

what were the other choices with satellite?
i remember meteor and constellation…

core was one, too

i think the redundancy one went something like,
‘I’m sick of tired of being sick and tired.’

wait…but i didnt choose redundancy and frustration! chose something else…

The other likely option for that was ‘euphemism/despair’, I remember, which is what I chose… now the question is whether ‘sick and tired of being sick and tired’ is a euphemism or not.

yea i chose euphemism and despair. It’s not redundant because it has a purpose, whereas redundant is usually repetition of an act needlessly.

And from some research it seems that that is NOT a euphemism, so darn.

Metaphor was incorrect.

The answer was parallel structure.

It is definitely a redundancy.

parallel structure is correct for the nikhil passage.

yeah i chose euphemism/despair!
but what does euphemism mean? :S

[Euphemism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Euphemism - Wikipedia) shows that it’s not a euphemism and thus the only respectable choice seems to be redundancy, even though there’s a specific word to describe oft used phrases like ‘I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired’. I was thinking that euphemism was the word in question, but alas.

@ishi a euphemism would be saying that your pet goldfish “has gone off to a better place” instead of saying it died.

I said “parallel structure” as well… I was 100% confident.

I remember “mocking”… what was the “wry” question?

yeah its def not Metaphor
it was parallel structure bcz in the 2nd or 3rd para the sentences were something like 'it was as Nikhil he…/It was as Nikhil…'etc etc

@nj wry was the answer to the tone of voice of the woman art professor passage.

Can someone explain why the ‘came equipped with a flock of sheep’ part was mocking a biography as opposed to satirizing rural life?

@theReach oh yeah…ur right.Darn!

The ‘wry’ question was the tone of the the artist in CR
