October 2009 Essay

I had the humor prompt

wrote about charlie chaplin during the great depression and the use of clowns in children’s hospitals and some personal experiences with funny literature blah blah blah

will it effect my score if a word got cut off of the border? I was trying to write recession but it probly got cut to “recess”

Charlie Chaplin and clowns in children’s hospitals is GREAT. o.O

I wish I had the family prompt :[ Could’ve written about “Metamorphosis” and “Sound and the Fury” … grr…

Humor: No.

Examples:

  1. History
    a. 9/11
  2. Literature
    b. The Scarlet Letter and adultery
  3. Current/Recent
    c. Michael Jackson… hahaha

hopefully my last example is okay if not… whatever. I managed to fill up the entire two pages, and I felt that I wrote well so I’ll see how that goes.

Social Connections: Yes

Intro

Body Paragraph: Psychological Aspect - Bowlby / Interactionism

Body Paragraph: Individual Case Study - Genie (feral child)

Body Paragraph: World Event - Woodrow Wilson’s League of Nation (cause/effect)

Body Paragraph: Fictional Event - Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart (lack of unity)

Conclusion

I thankfully got the one about knowing everything before taking an action. I thought it was comparatively easier than some the ones you guys got. I gave the following examples:

Arranged marriage in Pakistan and how so much people including my mother are not satisfied as a result of it.

Religious extremists and how they take such huge actions before actually reading the religious scriptures themselves instead of listening to some misinterpretation.

A friend who is very happy and successful now because he chose a career after studying a lot of different subjects at a liberal arts college.

Also managed to fill up the two pages although the best word I could use was “disgruntled” :P

I expect a 10. What do you guys think?

What’s the lowest score you can get if you fill up two pages, have a literary and historical example and don’t have any glaring mistakes?

The general opinion around here is that 3 good examples with both the pages filled and no glaring mistakes usually guarantees a 10.

what if u have an example abut grapes of wrath and la amistad and takes up to pages or if u develop 1 example
cuz its hard to develop threee good examples in 2 pages they prolly wont have enuff detail, cuz i did the threee examples and scored 9 in march and 8 in may lol

crossing finger for 11 or 12 with one developed example yeeeeeeeeeeeee

shiiiittttttt… hopefullly they don’t care. lol.

I was so happy with the family prompt. It was probably one of the easiest I’ve ever seen.

The Iliad
The Awakening
WWII

Did anyone else get an essay that was some Chinese proverb? Or rather, an excerpt that was a quote from a Chinese proverb/book or something like that. The gist was that to plan is better than to just take actions w/o planning.

what can I expect from a well written essay (strong intro / conclusion), filled two pages to the brim, but only 2 examples? (Each were like 10 sentences each though)?

Yes for social connections: examples: MLK + Death of a Salesman

I have a whole different one.sth like is thinking thru before taking actions better for ppl…
Kinda easier than that humor one as far as I know…
And…OMG,the HK testing supervisor was sooo random. He took away my pencil when I was concentrating on writing, saying that my No. 2 pencil(which was never complaint about in my other two times of SAT) did not qualify for the SAT;therfore he thrusted another no 2 pencil in my hand…I almost forgot wut I was gonna write…dang it

I had the knowledge and action one. I could have done better in the examples department though, I think I used only two and spent the rest of the time being a philosopher lol

Ya agreed! I think I could’ve added more examples as well, but I probably spent too much time trying to make logical sense of the flurry of ideas in my head lol.

i said humor is a good way to approach problems in life because worrying over some problems does not fix them. it only adds stress to one’s life.

examples…

“the man who would be king” by rudyard kipling - dravot and carnehan laugh off the obstacles they meet on their journey to conquer Kafiristan

“the stranger” by albert camus - meursault, an existentialist/postmodernist individual, uses humor and nonchalance to cope with his predicament(s).

two full pages, and used AcademicHacker’s guide meticulously. we’ll see what happens
