October 2009 SAT Math

@canadiankid9 that seemed like the only one that was not possible right?

sqrt(x+y) was the right answer

wat does square of Z mean? Does it mean Z^2 or sqroot Z?

Cacc, the square of something is X^2.

For the three sides of a triangle (x,y,z) which is impossible; the answer was
Z>X+Y correct? I can’t wait for the results to come out…im so nervous.

That problem read: x+y=radZ. The question wanted to know what Z was in terms of x and y. So in order to get Z, you need to square both sides to get rid of the radical, so your left with (x+y)^2=Z

ufcollins,

the problem was: “if the sum of x and y equals the square of z, what is z?”

[the square of z is z^2 not radZ] so x+y didn’t equal radZ, it equaled z^2.

so the answer was rad(x+y).

@ ownage yeah I do believe that it is the correct answer

@iheartivy Ok that’s what I thought. Was scared a bit there

how much can we miss for a 650

how much can we miss for 650 or 630-660

Ok, how much will -3 multiple choice likely be on this one? For the love of God, tell me that would be over 700 still.

Wait, so was the answer to the triangle problem x<y-z or something like that? Was it choice A? I understand the inequality theorem but I feel like a made a mistake…

I hope there’s a great curve on this test. I thought I did really well, but the more I read this thread the more I’m thinking my 700-ish score could actually be a sub-600 score. :(

Me too! Only not sub-600. I think sub-700 for CR is likely.

freakchild, I hope you’re wrong about your CR score and do better than you expect!

I’m hoping for 760+ for CR… there was a lot of stuff I wasn’t confident about on that section, but I looked it up when I got home and realized that I marked the correct answers.

But my math score in January was 640 and my PSAT score the year before for math was 52(0), so I was really hoping for an increase in that department… sigh

How much can we miss for 650 in math

@ phanatic

Thanks for your words of encouragement! I think I missed one definitely on math, and I think another one too (the scatterplot one, most people say it’s either y=4x or y=5x+20 and I put the former) so that’s -2 for math which is probably 760, which is ok with me.

But CR, I missed 1-2 sentence completions and possibly many questions from the women/art passage and 1 from the namesake passage. I REALLY want 720+ on CR.

I hope you get a good score! I would love to get 760 CR, but I don’t think I will.

^^ I think its y=5x+20…

I just drew a best fit line on the scatter plot and found the slope and y int.

^ For math, you can miss 8 I think. I think I missed 8 once and got 660 =(

I think I definitely did better on math this time.

x+y<z

wasnt an answer choice for the triangle problem
