October 2009 sat test discussion

no, if i am not mistaken

Guys, Math question… it was like #9.

Something do with with x, y, z and triangles. What did you guys put??

I choose A (something like z <y-x …)

0 is not a positive integer.

I think Collegeboard should throw away that integer problem for so many reasons. If that’s like one of the most discussed problem, then surely there is a big problem.

and yup, it’s A

People, I was enraged when I saw the second last math question, about the scatter.
Is it 4x or 5x+20. 5x+20 would be a great linear fit you’d use in physics, but a tree of age 0 doesn’t have r= 0. I put 5x+20, does anyone know what the answer is???

Turgond I think it’s +10. What’s the “integer” question? I thought the only screwed up question was the line.

That probability “problem” is fairly easy - 15x8=120 - For every of those 8 background colors, you have 15 other colors for the image.

It is 5x+20. Just draw a line which goes in the middle of those dots and than compare the answers. 12x and 4x are obviously wrong. 2x + 20 is too low and the last answer was too high I think. And 5x + 20 was just OK (you could subsitute 10 or 20 for x which would give you 70 and 120 years and it should lie just on the drawn line.

Just ask me if you have any question. I’m pretty sure I got 800 from Math, unless I checked a wrong answer than I wanted. Afterr all, 800 from Math II was a bit more difficult…

It was quite fun actually. I was pretty afraid of the essay and the reading parts, but I think I did very well. I didnt answer only one question - that with the answer “hobble” cause I didnt know the meaning of the most answers. I was even more afraid because I am not at home this month and so I had to take it in Germany and I had no idea where the testing room was. Only got some image from G-maps but still I was pretty scared I wouldnt find the way…

Glad to hear that you did well, Cermi, even if you did have some difficulties :)

I think I’ll probably be taking it again in January… :(

I think you can take it in December, the scores will come out two days before the deadline.

Did you guys got the math question on three triangles with a common point? And what is the answer of that background and picture problem?

Before it started I was so nervous as I ever was. But the essay was quite good, especially the topic, and I got some confidence after the 2nd section (Math) becuase it was so easy. But I was still a bit afraid of the reading passages and identifying mistakes in the writing section, but it turned out to be quite good. There were o/c some words I had no idea what they meant (hobble, wry, polymath…) but I was almost always able to eliminate at least two questions and so I answered all but one question. Before the test, I was hoping to get 600+ in CR and similar result in Writing, which would mean to get 2000 and I wouldnt have to send my TOEFL result to all the schools (=I’d save some money). Now I think I have a shot at 650-700 in CR, 800 in MAth and 600-650 in Writing. In the best case, I could get 2150 and in the worst it’d still be 2000+. Not bad for an international student (who is neither Chinese or Indian who are studying for the SAT for several years…).

How did you do? Are you looking forward to the scores or are you rather afraid to see them?

The three triangles were equilateral and almost every angle you could imagine in the object was 60 degrees (which was also the answer…)

I am rather afraid to see them.I lost my speed during the test especially during the CR section with two long passages.

I am rather afraid to see them.I lost my speed during the test.

“No, 666 is right. It said ‘less than 1000’ which means 1000 is not included.
I was so surprised I got that right, I thought I bs’ed that question
‘hmm 1000-1 is 999, divide by 3, 333, so it’s 666. oh the hell with it.’”

No. It said between 1 and 1000, not “less than 1000” so it would be 667

The problem with the 1000 and the multiples of 3 was defintely valid. It should NOT be thrown out. Clearly positive integers less than 1000 refers to 1, 2, 3, … 999. Since every 2 out of three positive integers is a multiple of 3, the answer must be 999 * (2/3) = 666.

Does anyone know why SAT has an experimental section?

Wait a second… I just realized… Isn’t it collegeboard’s rule that you can’t discuss test questions? So this thread should be like deleted…
