OCTOBER 2009 Writing

Discuss difficult writing problems..

What was the answer to the Improving Sentences question that had something like “Just By doing blah blah”

choices were like:

Just By
By Just
Just

Was it “JUST” ???

^ that’s what I put but I spent alot of time on that one.

yes, I put “just” because a verb followed after the clause immediately.

which ones had no error?
i remember eiffel tower, mr barthelmew, apples and pears… don’t remember any more

Eiffel had an error. Something with agreement…

Life of Bees didn’t have an error…Did it?

what was the answer to…
“sound waves are faster than that of light waves”…
the choices were
e) no error
c) they do

was it incorrect parallel structure?

I have known mr barthamelow interest in the art for a logn time, but I was suprrised of it…

does “it” refer to interest or art?

What was your essay prompt? I got humor/dealing with situations. Filled out both pages–1 example history, 1 example anecdote, 1 example literature. I was pretty pleased with it–finished with 3 minutes to spare, so was able to edit.

doesn’t anyone remember the extact wording of the essay prompt?

“Is using humor always a better way to approach difficult situations?”

agh I hated the essay prompt, I couldn’t think of anything…

What were the no error ones? writing was OKAY I guess.

It was “Is humor the best way to deal with difficult situations and problems?” Don’t remember the quote.

did life of bees or eiffel tower or mr bathamelow have errors?

I said no errors for life of bees.

My essay was really dumb. But I filled both pages which is all I cared about.

Life of Bees really puzzled me. What was the answer…?

I put no error, since nothing seemd to be wrong. I went back anf forth… Gahhh. o_0

@ gle

“I have known mr barthamelow interest in the painting for a long time, but I was suprrised of it…”

I was confused by this question too.
I thought the antecedent of “it” is “the painting,” so I put no error.
What do you guys think?

What were the answers to 28 and 29? Last questions before the passage…?

Essay was horrible topic for me, as I have been using Beowulf, Jane Eyre, various scientists, and Great Depression era events as examples for practice :X
