October 2010 ACT Reading Thread

I dont think you get that the seller wasn’t trying to make a profit from the clocks, actually the answer to another question was that he didnt even know how much the stuff in the store was worth.

There is a quote that said “I hope he doesn’t tell me that the clock I just sold for 125$ was not worth a fortune…”

Also, later on, he asks the buyer why he bought it. If he WAS truly trying to make a profit, he wouldn’t care.

I think negotiation was the better answer and that’s what other people said on CC as well. But I guess your answer could work top?

Idk maybe you are right.

Accounting for this question, the mexican question, and another question i can’t remember, I may have potentially gotten -3 on this section. What does this come out to?

Also wontongtong–

I am not saying that the seller WANTED THE CUSTOMER TO GO AS HIGH AS THE cuSTOMER POsSIBLY COULD to make a profit. I am saying that the CUSTOMER WANTED to go as high as he could to buy the radio.

No, I think I got that mexican question wrong. That was the only question I wasn’t confident. So you probably got it right.

Anyway, a lot of people are saying that they thought reading should be +1curve.

So with a +1 curve: -3 = 34
Normal curve: -3 =33

but, you never know…last time -1 was a 34 and people thought it was hard.

If the verbatim was exactly "the CUSTOMER WANTED to go as high as he could to buy the radio. ", I completely agree with you. However, I don’t think that is what the answer choice said.

The verbatim was exactly “The Customer INTENDED to go as high as he possibly could to buy the radio”

So…what was the question?

IDR exactly but i do remember the question had “the customer:” part in it and the answer choices were referring to the customer.

I agree with you. The story mentions that he was trying to hide his enthusiasm.

^are we talking about the same answer choice? I am confused lol

Enthusiasm vs. Negotiation?

I am talking about the choice that said “the customer INTENDED to go as high as he possibly coud to buy the radio and the seller gratefully accepted it”

Is that the “enthusiasm” choice?

Oh. I read in an earlier post about the enthusiasm vs. negotiation question.

^It’s the same question but I THINK we are talking about different choices

Oh. I did not remember the question exactly.

Was the purpose of the painter essay to display a creatively fertile time for the painter?

^don’t remember the question AT ALL. Maybe you can elaborate more?

It just asked what the overall purpose of the essay was. One of the other choices was to contrast his work in Mexico and America

I also put the creatively fertile time as an answer!
