<p>I have no idea how people think it’s stimulant. The log whatever helped him resolve his angers, cool his temper. It is a cure, an antidote, for his temper and composure.</p>
<p>A stimulant gets you more pumped, while the log whatever cooled him.</p>
<p>Also, for the simile at the end (with the children’s toy) is it confirmed as “it would disappear soon / short lived” and not the “being alone” one?

<p>as for the “inevitable” one, why couldn’t it be “undesirable”? i thought the whole point of the first passage was that the “default scenario” DIDN’T have to be inevitable, and that we could act now in order to preserve future generations of wildlife and steer away from the fated course.</p>
