kk415kk WE ARE SO IDENTICAL! Yes I did put comparing style with substance, and thank you very much for boosting my confidence in Homer.

Trojan passage: it’s a paradox because people believe in a myth that’s lacking evidence.

You guys I think the answer was diffident because self-effacing was also mentioned in the sentence, and self-effacing and diffident are synonyms.

inadequate…the only thing that is adequate to P1 would be rewilding.

Did anyone else think the Kael one was insanely hard?

1) why wasn’t the default plan “undesirable”? how come the answer is “inevitable”?
The answer is undesirable, no worries. ![]()
2) One question on Trojan passage. Why is it “paradox”- there were two answers I thought were close to answer.
It was something like “because people believed wholeheartedly in something they had no proof of” I think choice E?
3) for the “ambitiou, wasteful, inadequate” question
Inadequate. Not ambitious because that’s what conservationist biologists do already; the alternative that the guy proposes is just a continuation of their current actions. Not wasteful because it’s NOT wasteful, it’s just not enough to actually help revitalize the ecosystems.

I chose retiring because it talked about the narrator being hidden away from the public, not wanting to let the public know about herself. But then it says however, and then she argues about public controversy, which means that the word that matches up with diffident wouldn’t fit because it also meant hidden away whereas the word with retiring meant out in the open (very rough definitions).

As for the rewilding question, I put down inadequate lol because it says the “default” solution would be blah blah blah, which means that if they DON’T do anything then this will happen. However, since he’s arguing that they actually step in and do something about it, they wouldn’t want that to happen, thus making it undesirable.

it’s “inadequate” because the first passage mentions that SIMPLY trying to stall biodiversity loss is NOT enough, and that we have to “protect evolutionary potential” through rewilding as well.

@blugblug definitely inadequate

I repeat, does anyone remember a sentence completion about The scientist ----- some institution to give her grants so that she could ----- the cost of research?
I was debating between persuade … something and inspire… something.

noooo it was retiring/ penchant for the one about the person writing in her newspaper. it was NOT diffident/ aversion. aversion means she found it distasteful while the sentence was trying to contrast her personal life and professional writing in the newspaper.

also, it is not eminent it was decorum

what was the answer to question that referred to the little parapgrapgh written by Thudlyies?

one answer choice was national pride

I remember a question like this, but I had an experimental CR section

Blah, see, the problem is, I thought both diffident and retiring worked. Both of them work for the first blank (both are listed synonyms for self-effacing), and the second blank is supposed to be a contrast–this contrast can go both ways, however. In the first blank, the journalist wants to avoid talking about herself because she’s shy; this is supposed to contrast with another aspect of herself, which should be something passionate. Both aversion and trenchant are passions. So I didn’t know which one would fit more
Hope it’s diffident…

goddamnit i wish collegeboard would just hurry up and give us our ****ing scores!

it’s “retiring…penchant for” because although in her personal affairs, the journalist is very reserved, she is clearly outspoken through her articles, writing about bold topics such as “publicity and controversy.”

it ISN’T “diffident…aversion toward” because although she IS shy, and “self-effacing,” in her personal life, why should that mean she can’t hold negative opinions towards controversy? you can still dislike publicity and controversy, yet be shy about it. you need the “penchant for” to contrast with her real-life shyness.

What did you guys put for the short passage when the little boy was walking in the woods and it was something about a simile with someone else’s toy?

Btw, is CR always like this in regards to so many conflicting opinions on some questions?

Was this CR considered easy, medium, or hard?

@Harambee, do you also remember the choices to the oscar wilde question? the ones discussed so far in the thread include one about biography+factual erros, one about poem, one about dancer +technical

also! i think it was undesirable not inevitable because that would mean there is no way to stop that from happening. there is a way to stop that from happening through the rewilding plan so i think the answer was undesirable
