October 2010 CR SAT Thread

@ Rennir - I chose “She had detractors” and “The poems of Homer” as well.

Where’s the international thread? I had a different test from all of you.

ughhhh yeah movie critic-disagreement over her work
makes much more sense. no idea what i was thinking! I already got Oscar one wrong …a stupid choice. For now i have -4 (if distinctive movie goers is the right answer that is), what would be the score approximately?

@boston1993 okay that’s what I thought. I’m a little worried though because I don’t remember picking that answer. And I thought it was such an easy one too, I didn’t even look back -_-

The dictator publicized the prosperity of the village to downplay the magnitude of economic hardship in the country.

@Linger: Yes, I think that was the first SC in one section.

@Via: The dictator emphasized the prosperity of one village to downplay the magnitude of economic problems in the other villages (not exact, but you get the general idea).

can someone remember the context of the medium/captivate sc?

For the “elicit” sentence comp, what were the other options/what was the sentence about?

was a scientist being easy-going one for SC? or was it on the experiment section? and i remember picking something like “axiomatic” for a discovery or something? was that on the experiment section also? and something about somebody dressed inappropriately on the SC? dont remember the answer… seems like nobody mentioned it… so it was on the experiment again???

anyone remember what was the reconciliating…enmity question???

“ughhhh yeah movie critic-disagreement over her work
makes much more sense.”

How does it make sense? Where in the passage is there evidence? There is clear evidence for “They did not view her objectively”

Yes, the author was praising her, but the question was in past tense.

@danceforever i agree with you on the "probably not, … " choice

@boston do you remember the other answer choices, i can’t remember which one i put

I have -3 right now I think. I stupidly got decorum, slovenly, and trenchant wrong. T_T

I would love it if someone could tell me the sentence where the answer was THRIVING and the other choices. Was this once obvious cuz i cant remember it at all

@zsefvbjil3, the sentence was something along the lines of “even though the estranged friends tried to reconcile, their underlying enmity proved to be too big to overcome” or something like that, you get the gist of it.

@Medium/captivate SC: Does anyone know if this was experimental? I think I had an experimental about a girl watching the sunrise on her tenth birthday and reflecting how, in the past, her siblings told her that the veterans parade was in celebration of her birthday, but there is also another experimental about some African-American band. :</p>

I second that.

^oh yeah ~ thanks! :D

Was conundrum or parable the answer to one of the higher-level SCs?

No, sorry. I rarely ever remember anything than parts of the question and my own answer.
