October 2011 Post-ACT Test discussion

So, how do you guys think you did? I am feeling a composite of 33 with english being my lowest, but that's just a feeling

I feel that I did pretty well… probably a 2 or 3 point increase off of my 26 (let’s hope).

English - very easy
Math - difficult (for me… I hate math)
Reading - easy
Science - easier than normal

^ I thought this was easier than September…

But idk what I am gonna got

I thought the science section was easier than usual

When will the scores come out?

November 8, 2011 – December 23, 2011

Ugh. This test was just that – ugh.

I’m sick. I got out of bed with a 100 fever and a pounding head. I thought a healthy dose of Ibuprofen would help. I was wrong.

Anywho, I thought the English was easy. I got a little cocky near the end and slowed down and proctor called five minutes when I had a few left.

The Math was probably the most difficult I’ve seen. I also started to develop a migraine during this section which threw off my concentration. I was able to answer maybe half of the questions and I (willingly) guessed on the rest.

Reading – not too bad. I was able to read/answer three full stories when the proctor called five minutes as I answered the last question on the third story. I just guessed on the last story and filled in B’s/C’s.

Science – probably worse (or equal) to my predicted Math subscore. I’m betting on an 18 at best. If I came to a problem that required just a little thought, I filled in B without thinking. Just. Everything. It sucked.

All in all, I had an unfair advantage of being sick. Math and Science definitely killed me. I’d love for a 36 on English, but there were a few that got me, I know it.

I finished English and Writing on time, but ran out of time in Math, Reading and Science. I took the exam in Brazil. Maybe we had different forms because English was very easy and Science was scaring!

Did the forms have different questions? I noticed most of my friends had different form numbers than I did.

That blows, Jay. :frowning: Did as predicated on the math section - bombed completely. There were only a maximum of 20 questions where I knew the answer. English wasn’t too bad, and I think I did somewhat well on reading (I had a hard time focusing on the first passage so I ended up doing that one last), and science… well, it was science. There were only 5 or so questions I encountered where it was an all-out guess after trying to eliminate stuff. All in all, it wasn’t so bad for my first time, but I am POSITIVE that I will be taking it again because I have no confidence.

English was certainly easy, and/but I had enough time to go back and fix two blatant mistakes I had made.
Math was easy until the last twenty. I hate the Math section but scored highest on it during my first ACT.
Reading was much easier than usual. I feel confident that I broke thirty.
Science was easy up until the last passage. Really iffy about my scores.

Writing… let’s just say I showed that essay who’s boss.

@theinjury:

are you a junior?

What was your essay topic? Mine was on whether or not outstanding athletic or artistic talented students should leave high school before getting a diploma if they were offered an opportunity to play in the professional level.

@nina: Nope. I actually never went to high school, which is why I am extremely rusty when it comes to math that’s anything beyond basic algebra/geometry.

English: I know I did well, as usual, on the subject that doesn’t matter the most…
Math: Um. I skipped like 8 questions and had about 5 left when 5 minutes was called. I guessed on the last 5 and went back to the 8 I had skipped and made educated guesses (I had crossed off 2 or 3 possible choices when I was trying to figure out the answer to begin with).
Reading: I hardly remember this for some reason, but it wasn’t too hard.
Science: A passage near the end got me, and then the one after it was really easy but I didn’t have time to do it, so I just guessed!
Essay: I think I did pretty well, but I didn’t get too into it until like the 3rd paragraph (out of 4).

I think English will be my highest, followed by reading, then science, then math. I wish more colleges superscored the ACT!

@Classof12and16

where are you applying?

And to all posters:

is this your first time taking the ACT?

English was decent
Math was relatively easy… for me
Reading was a bit tough, I almost ran out of time on that one
Science seemed easier than expected
On the essay, the proctor cut me short when I had 3 words left in the essay… :(

I was getting 32s and 33s on my practice exams but I don’t think I got above a 31, could just be pessimistic thinking though. Regardless, that was my first one and I’m glad to have this experience under my belt for when I take it again in December. Also, the test center was 35 mins from my house, when I take it in December it will be 10 mins from my house.

@nina1228:
Third and decidedly last time taking the ACT. Felt a lot better about this one. Hoping for a [perfect score…] at least a 30~31 from a 27

Feeling a 35 composite. Almost ran out of time in the reading section, had to rush through the last passage but I don’t think I missed any. Last few questions in math took some thought, probably missed one of them. Don’t think I missed any writing. Essay was pretty crappy as per my usual. 36 science from my last sitting should help with a superscore if I missed any this time.

If I had to estimate a composite… between a 28-30 if I’m lucky, but since math screwed me over something fierce, I’ll go with 25 as the lowest. If I don’t improve next time, I’ll just go for the SAT instead.
