October 2011 SAT Reading

So back to answer with taunt. What were the other choices. Rebuttal, pun, parody and 5th answer that I think picked

@hitthebooks1994

It’s taunt. Walk on.

thanks!

was i the only one who didn’t put “personal and reflective” for the art/detour passage? I forgot what i put, but it wasn’t necessarily personal as it was dealing with art in general. also for the nuclear energy passage, wouldn’t the author of part 2 say" its been exhausted/tried"?

i’m a little worried. i got 76 on psat reading, but then dropped 60 pts for my first SAT, and I am hoping to get back into the 750+ range

@kobe an archaeologist pieces together fragments of a culture and interprets them to the best of his/her abilities. the author mentioned something about not knowing exactly what the cultural conditions were but guessing to the best of her abilities.

@biochemtx he opens by talking about his personal experience on the highway, and that sets the stage for his reflections/the whole article. that’s what i thought, anyway.

i got an 194 on my fresh year PSAT cold and 170 soph year. ehh.

What was the one about …mismanagement in the city council… would be foolhardy
the options were: ameliorate, ascertain, exacerbate. I thought it was exacerbate at first, but wouldn’t it make sense for it to be ascertained because if conditions are already determined to be bad, wasting additional funds in attempt to better them would be “foolhardy”. Feedback?

@biochemtx
nearly half the article was a personal story about texas and stuff

I see the merit in that idea, but how can you underestimate something you never considered? Passage one just said “we have a surplus in electricity, let’s find and invest in other stuff before going all out with an unsafe nuclear plan”
passage 2 said “we’ve done all of this, but look at our current situation, we need nuclear still”

CrazyPluto
“lol but it was like OH JUST CREATE MORE WINDMILLS THAT WILL SOLVE ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS while passage two was like DUDE WINDMILLS ARENT CHEAP MANG so…”

why is sat so hard

i think imma cancel this one

Curve for math:
-1 800
-2 780
-3 750
-4 730
-5 710
-6 700

I honestly think the collegeboard will do 48/54 = 700.

@CrazyPluto

Hmm good point. Was the word “underestimate” specifically used? I can’t seem to remember.

@NewYorkMets
i believe the word was “understating”…not sure

was the blockbuster hits section experimental?

@nikanon I agree, I think you can safely assume that passage 2 is saying “dude, you didn’t realize how much it costs, we’ve poured a crapload of money into it”

so is there a consensus on what the answer was about the attitude of the author of passage2 on the nuclear energy topic? was it “they’ve been exhausted?”

Even if it was understating, CrazyPluto’s point still stands.

and i think the one about the money/entrenchment was exacberated. What was the one about mlk/malcolm x? i didn’t think ameliorate fit in that context, i forgot what i put though.

I’ve mentioned this question twice already, but it hasn’t really been addressed.

Why isn’t the main concern of Author 2 to advocate expanded use of nuclear power as a temporary energy source? I know most people have said that Author 2 was looking for an energy source with less environmental impact, but isn’t my choice alluding to the same notion, but more specifically and precisely?

what was the answer for the sentence completion about a condescending person
