October 2014 ACT discussion thread

My proctor decided to shorten 2-3 minutes on every single section… ■■■? Even for the writing, it was 26 minutes in and she said, “Stop, put your pencils down.” Wow, I understand you wanna go home, but srsly?

hjhjhj

@act36wannabe pretty sure you can let the ACT know about that because it could be considered an irregularity in the testing center.

High scorers generally don’t guess, with the exception of the ones who are not good at math. At the worst, when running out of time, they may have to make some hasty decisions.
I took the September ACT and unfortunately only got 32C, 34E, 35M, 28R, 30S. For a few days leading up to this test I just took a bunch of reading and science sections to get my strategy down. I was getting 34s and 35s on both sections. Time is the only problem I ever have on standardized tests. Overall, the math was ridiculously easy, english was okay, and then reading and science just asked really annoying questions. I’m thinking my scores will probably end up being about the same. Maybe a 33 composite if I’m lucky and there’s a generous reading and science curve. Reading and science were definitely harder than the red book ones.

is no one making a google doc?

math was honestly easy but worst case what is -10 LOL

No.

Please play by the rules!

Is anyone here taking the ACT as a supplement for subject tests? This is second time taking ACT(First score M,S,R,W 30,30,24,23) 27 total… Didn’t exactly ball out on reading and writing the first time around… If R+W average out this time to lets say a 27 and my M+S=30 doesn’t improve, would they round the composite score to up to 29 or down to 28? I think I need at least a 29 as a supplement to subject tests with most of my schools. Finally, does a 29 beat my 2010 SAT? I already know I have to send these ACT scores to some schools… But if the score is good enough, should I just send the ACT? thanks guys…

@scarlettlovesivy‌ around a 29

29 is a 1940 so 2010 is better

The math was the only multiple choice section I didn’t finish, and I had half a sentence left to write when time got called. Hopefully, this being my first time taking the test and not studying, I get a 29 C (guessing I got a 30 E without writing, 27-28M, 30R, 29S, though it depends on curving) and at least an 8 in W so my E/W combined score’s not terrible…

And @2014satdoe : 29 ACT is about a 1950 SAT, so if that’s what you end up getting, send SAT too. If you get 30+ ACT, then just sending the ACT is fine if where you apply doesn’t need all SAT/ACT scores, as 30 ACT = 2010 SAT.

can you superscore the ACT

@justthatkid‌ depends on the college

Also: friendly reminder that 33+ puts you in the top 1% nationally so don’t stress too much if you get a 33 and wanted a 34.

What was your essay prompt?

do you guys think -1 on reading would still be a 36?

Is there supposed to be a break b/n science and writing? Because I did not get one…

@goldfly , we are not allowed to share writing prompts. :frowning:

@Mango920452‌ most testing centers will give you 1-2 minutes after they collect test books and before they start reading the instructions, but you cant get out of your seat, talk, or leave the room during that time

@acttesttaker36‌ I believe -2 will be considered 36 because of the one compare contrast passage. i don’t think -3 will be a 36 though.
