***OCTOBER 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

my d took the test yesterday, she had been 34-35 in practice with about 2-3 minutes left over on math/science, lots of time on the other sections. she had to guess at one math question and thought the the test was comparatively easy. Unfortunately, she didn’t have time to check two sections which, on the practice tests, has meant scores for those sections in the high 20s, low 30s. so I’m guessing a 32 for her.

Man, in my opinion a tough test. Took the September one and got a 32 (English-34; Math-31; Reading-34; Science-30), but this test I think I did a lot worse in reading than I had in the past. I thought that:
English: easier than before, had about 3 minutes of extra time to check things over afterwards

Math: a little easier than before, just a few where I absolutely guessed with zero real math behind it lol.

Reading: dang!!! I thought this was way harder than before, and I’m usually dope at reading! It could have been bad because halfway through someone’s phone went off and the proctor had to take care of it for a few minutes which was kind of distracting but I don’t know! Not my best work. Guessed on a significant amount.

Science- eh. Easier than before, but I’m always sooooo bad at science.

Ultimately hoping for around a 34 but tbh I don’t think that’ll happen. Good luck to all!

Where did you take the test???

My proctor forgot to give us a 5 min warning at the 5 min mark, and then she said we had 5 minutes left when we really only had 2 on the reading section. What should I do, if anything, about this?

@aznboi4981 The same thing happened to me on the english test. To make it even worse, the room I was in didn’t have a clock, so I couldn’t pace at all.

@ricka8 yeah I put one such, too.

@nadinem123 Length really isn’t the determining factor. I filled up all the pages on the Sept. ACT writing and got a 22. It’s about content…

  • apologies if this is a student-only forum, the name of the forum doesn’t indicate it as such nor does the title of this thread. Happy to stop participating if you’ll point me to the dictum about no parents. In any case, not sure where your objection lies.
  • I don't think my daughter is going to get a low score, a 32 is a very good score. I spent a lot of time helping my daughter prepare for the test, spoke to her afterwards, and, while as you point out, I don't know the details of her test, a 32 is what we're both guessing. We'd be pretty happy with that, particularly if a couple of sections are 34-36 and the others can be superscored.
  • I'm on here because, like the other participants, I have a viewpoint and I'm contributing a data point on my daughter's view of the test. I read the other responses to get a sense of how hard this test was compared to others.

I think you should relax on the whole parent thing. If it really bothers you, why don’t you start a thread on tumblr or reddit? Much less probability of parent participation.

in any case, good luck to you, hope you aced the exam.

There is no way to just cancel your essay score, unfortunately.

Did anyone else feel like the Reading on this ACT was difficult? I had to do the dual passage in 5 minutes.

@sgallagher23 YES. I had to guess on like 10 questions. :frowning:

@aznboi4981 I would say that I got about 10 wrong…had to completely guess on 2 of them

@sgallagher23 Let’s just pray we guessed correctly. Haha, I got a 30 on Reading last time, so I may need to use that in my superscore.

@aznboi4981 yeah I got a 29 in reading last time…this time didn’t go as well

I thought that the double passage was the hardest out of them all

I thought the reading was extremely easy lol I-) but i thought the math was hard

IMO, waiting for the scores is even harder than taking the test

it must be nice to have a parent micromanaging and looking over their children’s work… no responsibility… coughcough … quietdesperation…

@quietdesperation I just think its weird af… Its just like as a parent you’ve posted 230 times on this website… If you’re passionate about finding help or asking questions or something go to a real life person, college confidential is not the place. I wouldn’t want my parent getting all her guidance from this website. I can’t even fathom my parent going on here and posting all my information and my test scores, kind of uncomfortable. I’m totally relaxed, fyi
