***OCTOBER 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

35 english
35 math
35 reading
36 science
1 away from a 36!!

@chubii it would have, i got a 33.25 :frowning:

How do you know how many questions you were away from a certain score?

What you guys think about the curve? Is it better than the last exam ? (Specially in reading)

@andres07 what do you mean in terms of curve?

@andres07 did you take a different order ACT? What was the curve last time?

I’m asking about the raw scores.

@applicantcor oh I meant like… you don’t know if getting one question right bumps up the subscore :slight_smile: ACT doesn’t tell you how many questions you missed or anything. (applies to @sweetea 's question too)

Ok, I don’t comment a ton on these, but I feel like I owe it to this thread and the whole CC community to post my quick anecdote of hope.
I first took the ACT through the Duke Talent Search thing. I got a 17.
The first time I took it in high school was April of my sophomore year. I got a 28.
I took the ACT again in October of my junior year. I got a 31.
I took the ACT a few more times throughout my junior year. Scores: 31, 30, 32.
And I just took the ACT for the final time in October of my senior year, and I received my scores back tonight, just like many of you. I got a 35.
Point being: just keep chugging along and working hard! That score will improve if you’re dedicated enough and willing to work at it. My story: didn’t study for the 28, studied hard for the 31, studied even harder for the 32, didn’t study at all for the 35, but just kinda allowed myself to relax and just take the test.

Congrats to everyone who got the score they wanted, like me! And to those who didn’t: don’t give up hope! It can improve… Just look at me!

@andres07 can you elaborate more please?

@Cornhuskerfan49 you’re amazing

@Cornhuskerfan49 wow that’s… a LOT of tests… you took the ACT 7 times? impressive haha
not sure if I could do that :smiley:

@Cornhuskerfan49 Congrats on the steady improvement and not to rain on your parade, but isn’t testing past 3 times considered a big no-no for most competitive colleges?

I honestly just want to die right now. How could i have been so stupid to not put amino acids were the building blocks of proteins. I am going to get that engraved in my skull, ‘amino acids’. RIP Cornell dream 33 won’t cut it

yeah… some schools like UPenn and JHU (I think) require your entire testing history… :\

I know act doesn’t give you a raw score but maybe you can figure out in what your score is and what you predicted before get it. I’m just like to know if the curve was harder or easier than the last time. Thanks

@applicantcor I’m not sure moping and repeatedly posting about your personal disappointment will do anything at this point in time. Cheer up and move on, you have better things to do with your time (like editing personal statements and essays). A 33 will not kill your chances.

WHAT CURVE? DEFINE CURVE @ANDRES07

The averages in Cornell range from 30 to 34, you still have a VERY good chance!

I agree with @polarknut
I don’t think Cornell will be like “this is a great applicant. too bad he got a 33 instead of a 34+ so we won’t accept him now.”
keep your head up! :slight_smile:
