I'm planning on applying ED1, and the deadline is Nov 1. I was thinking about trying to get my SAT scores up one last time on October 6. It says online that the scores will be available Oct. 25.

I'm concerned that if I wait to see if these scores are higher, I will be waiting til the last minute. I haven't sent ANY of my ACT/SAT scores to ANY schools, and I don't know how long everything takes. Is it done online?

Basically, will I have enough time to evaluate all of my scores, choose my best score, sent it to NYU, send the common app and NYU supplement, all in the time period from Oct. 25 to Nov 1?????????? Has anyone done this before??

I’m in the same boat as you. I feel kinda worried because October 25th date is so close to November 1st deadline date… and we all know that the site will probably be very slow and might crash with people applying last minute.

I think you can submit your SAT/ACT scores through the College Board website, but I’ve never done it before so I don’t know too much about it.

Are you not submitting your ACT score anymore?

@helloparis I’m very conflicted. I only got a 29 on my ACT and my GPA is only a 3.71, so my stats aren’t that strong.

Ideally I would want to try to take the SAT, but I think I am just going to send my ACT score.

I would email NYU and ask whether or not they will accept it. Although scores come out on the 25th, it generally take another few days for College Board to send it out.

It’s probably because I think I’m technically an ‘international’ student (I’m at a DoDDs school overseas) so scores might take a little longer (they usually don’t though) but my counselor told me that the October test date would not get NYU my scores on time.
If they can get there though, nothing else is really a big deal.
Here’s what I would do:
Have your SAT and ACT scores sent to NYU now, unless they’re absolutely terrible.
Do the Common App and NYU supplement (basically, the entire application) before October 25th. Remember, NYU accepts application materials in whatever order you give them. You can submit the CA on August 2nd and the NYU supplement on October 20th, if you want. They won’t begin to review your application until they receive all of your application materials.
Have the SATs from October be automatically sent (don’t wait until you see the scores, that’ll take longer)

If you think that your SATs/ACTs from before will be a detriment to your application because they aren’t good enough, I wouldn’t apply ED1. Instead, wait until you get those scores, take your time, maybe even take it again, and then apply ED2 or RD.

@tniemann Thanks a lot. That makes sense. I think I’m going to stick with my ACT score, though.

To be honest, I really hate this site at times. It always just gives me bad news. Only on College Confidential would a 29 be considered a bad score. I am proud of that score. NYU’s AVERAGE is 29. That means that, yes, there are going to be 50% of the scores above this, and 50% BELOW!

I feel like this site is just a huge discouragement. It’s quite clear that the users on this site are very proactive. Seldom do you see a person post a 26 ACT or an 1800 SAT or even a 3.5 GPA (gasp!) but they exist at NYU and all universities across the world. Not everyone is at or above the averages. That’s why they are AVERAGES!!! There is obviously going to be a “slacker” that gets into NYU. College Confidential just seems to be home to the 90+ percentile that likes to shut people down in they don’t have a score similar to theirs.

Sorry for the rant, but it needed to be said. This has nothing to do with anyone on this thread, it’s just an observation I’ve made of the site as a whole.

I totally agree with you- I was so happy with my SATs and ACTs until I came on here, it’s makes everyone without a 4.0 uw GPA, a 34 ACT, and a 2300 SAT feel awful.
But what you have to realize is that CC is a very small portion of the applicants, and they are the top of the applicant pool, so just like you said there are tons of applicants that have much lower scores than you do, and tons of people the were admitted with those scores. Whenever this site gets me down, I go back to looking at the pure statistics- NYU’s averages- and tell myself that most of these people know about as much as we do about whether or not we’ll be accepted. :D

It’s so nice to see that someone feels the same way. Let’s face it, most of us have great changes of getting in and I would say the majority of active CC users like uswill get into NYU or whatever school they are planning on applying to.

I may be at average statistics, but that is still uplifting to me. I have a good shot at getting in, as do most ppl on here. I guess we all just have to keep that in mind.
