I have heard people say that October and November SATs are harder, is it true?

rele? i heard the complete opposite lol... i mean, it makes more sense that they'd make the april-june SAT's harder, considering thats wen the majority of juniors take them... :-/ i dunno...
im sure if u asked them directly tho, they'd be like "we make up equal and fair tests for all... bla bla bla..."

I thought the May test was pretty decent. I hope the October test will be easier though.

Which do you think will be easier October or November?

I've always thought the October SAT I is more difficult because many students take summer prep courses, so a harder test would yield a wider range of scores. Along the same lines, the June SAT II should be harder because the SAT II is a knowledge-based test, so most students would want to take it then when they feel they are most prepared.

I def think that the October test was harder than the December and April tests. I scored a 650 on CR in October, and a 780 in december and a 740 in april. I also scored a 650 on W in October and a 730 in Dec. Maybe I was just having a bad day, but it really did seem harder.

I hope that's true. I took the SAT in October and got a 2050 (which I am reasonably happy with) but I'd really like to raise that by 100 points when I take the test again in June.

you know, even if one SAT is harder than another, this shouldn't affect your score. The SAT is curved, so the curve would just be higher on an easier test and lower on a harder test. Your score should still stay constant. I know this may seem like a crazy theory, but perhaps your scores improved between testings due to more preparation and experience? Just a thought...

Yeah i didn't really prepare that much but the experience could have something to do with it.

I heard Oct test is the hardest. Also it is the time when most kids take them. both in the states and international

Oh poo.......

Well if that's true...that sucks

January is where it's at. haha... I hope the october test isn't as bad. I'd hope ETS would make all the tests equally hard/easy, however you want to look at it.

oh, that really suuucks lol :( ... I thought the June SAT wasn't AWFUL, but I was hoping to improve by 100-200 points the October round...

that suucks, I agree. april test was easy, although the curve on writing wasn't good.

Ummm I dont think it matters which is harder cuz they will just curve each section so that the average is a 500 nationally. So even if it is harder you get extra points on the october curve than the march curve. But yea I thought this test was the hardest one ive taken so far.

Just to clear things up, it is very unlikely that there is an average difference in the difficulty of questions on tests given during one part of the year compared to tests given in another time of year. The sections are pretested for appropriate difficulty using the expirimental section among other things, and the people that these sections are being tested on do not get smarter if the section they are taking is going to be used on a future October SAT. Given that the question difficulty is not altered for certain tests, it is thus probable that summer prep courses would raise the average number of questions that people get right (raw score). As the SAT uses the system of equating to convert raw scores to scaled scores (this process matches up the percentiles and test scaled scores) the same raw score on the October SAT would convert to a lower scaled score and a lower, assuming that students come more prepared to the October SAT (because of summer prep).

Conclusion: if students come more prepared to the October SAT, then it will be harder to get a high score and percentile, but not harder to get the same number of questions right.

I disagree. There is no way that the test can be easier in a given month. The curves for every test are predetermined well in advance, and all of these curves are equally harsh/lenient and are adjusted in the same way based on the difficulty of the questions, which have all been tested on “guinea pig” students. The curve is not determined after the tests are taken, as googglechief might have indicated if I understood him correctly. It is theoretically possible that every student on a given test date could get a 2400. The idea that the october test would be made harder just because there are more prepared students taking it seems extremely hard to believe.

Well I live in Michigan so taking the Oct SAT was the first and I think the test was mind blowing.

I know this sounds crazy but maybe they vary each year … I mean, there are definitely difficulty differences between tests but I don’t think that necessarily means its always the same date… i dunno
