DD got her Oct SAT score online today (finally). She got a 650 math (30 point improvement), 570 verbal (10 points less) and 630 writing (40 point improvement). She will not retake the test. She says...This is the way it is. Her best combined CR/Math is 1230 which is shy of the 1300 she was aiming for. But she hopes it will be enough for her EA first choice school (Santa Clara University). Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed and wait.

What a relief. Congratulations on the overall improvement and I hope we see her in the Bay Area next fall. Crossing fingers.

More crossed fingers. I think she looks solid based on USN data for 2004. She's above the middle of the 25/75 combined range. thumper, they also give data on USN premium edition re % of last year's class with scores in each SAT range (600-699, 500-599) etc. which are encouraging for your D's scores. If you don't subscribe and want to see, let me know. Or perhaps you're trying not to obsess? ;)

Thumper, Congratulations to you and your D!! I am happy to hear that she got the scores and that she improved overall!

Just curious did she spend a lot of time drilling and taking practice tests to improve her score?

She did practice tests, and the SAT question of the day. She had taken a Kaplan course and had the books and CD from that. She was actually disappointed as she really wanted to be above 1300 total CR/Math...and she only made 1230. If it gets her into her first choice school (Santa Clara) it's fine.

She did her best. It sounds like she really plugged away at it. I hope she gets into her first choice!

My son never did get the math score he wanted. Its a nasty, evil, tricksy test.

I looked at the SCU website - the thing that struck me was this:"Choose one of the many personal statement topics. Personal statements are typically one to three pages in length."

So - they will really look at her, and her essay - and if that and her grades are within range, I think she has a good shot.

Glad the scores finally came in ... best of luck to your daughter!

Thumper,
Congrats to your D! We have a friend who just graduated from Santa Clara (big basketball scholarship) and loved it. I hope it works out for her there!
