October SAT scores!!!!

Hello everyone,
I have just recieved my October SAT scores and I would like to hear your opinion on my chances to get to high universities like NYU, USC, UPENN, University of Michigan and so on...

Don't forget that I'm not a native speaker, and English is my third language.

Math - 720
Critical Reading- 520
Writing- 540

Overall: 1780

What do you think are my chances?

Mango Girl

June
Math-800
CR-520
Writing-690 (MC-69 E-9)

Ocotber
Math-780
CR-600
Writing-690 (MC-71 E-8)
so superscore 2090

As for you, Mango, I think you gotta increase CR and Writing. Your math score is very good, but colleges wouldn't care much that English is not your first language (most internationals are not native speakers). And will you apply this year? If you won't, you have plenty of time to prepare

i got
690 on cr
780 on math
600 on writing(58+9)

which colleges should i apply????? for ed and rd

ummh I really think you should retake it....ur applying to top colleges, so it is important to show that ur english is good enough to handle college work.

I took the SAT I twice and increased my CR score by, I think, 80 points.

If ur applying this year, u can retake it on jannuary as I did.

Megaaadi, I think u should start ur own thread.

hi guys, i'm from argentina and just took my first sat. I'm planning to apply to top colleges..

Cr 620
M 780
W 590

i know that colleges have some consideration with the english section but nevertheless i know my socre are low and that i have to higher my socres in those sections.... right now i have a 1990 what should my taget score be for dicember??

thanks!!

2400 .

CR- 790
Math-730
W- 670

Total - 2190

W - 650
Math - 710
CR - 800

Total - 2160

come on guys, it's awesome but how the **** did you get 790-800 on CR. I am trying to break 650 and I still can't. Is English your first languauge?

SAT II: Math2 Physics Chem 800/800/800.

Anyway, in reply to tromsyo89's question, English is not technically my first language (I speak Mandarin at home) but I still managed an 800CR and a 730W (Math was 800 too if you are curious). I think you should try to remember some words from the vocab list (in Barrons and other books), and read widely (very important, I subscribe to TIME and The Economist and read them cover to cover before the next issue comes).

Mango7!!!! i'm in the same boat as you!!!! i'm applying to the EXACT same unis as you and i got 1750 (CR 600, M 590 W 560)
but i'm not sad, even tho i was expecting over 2000 def. just motivates me more for dec...and it was my first time so i know what to expect..all the practice tests i did were easily over 2100 but i didn't TIME it...now i know time is really really important!! so good luck on the retakes everyone!!

I got 700 CR - 620 Mathematics and 580 Writing

700 is okay for me, as I am not a native speaker, but mathematics and writing really need to be higher.

dang 714nD1, very nice :)

tromsyo89 i have to give the same advice as frankchn. read the barrons or kaplan word lists. the kaplan book was really useful for me. read newspaper editorials, web articles and magazines. luck does have a part on the exam though coz i ended up running in to words i learnt a couple of days ago.

lynn4eva -i got a 1970 and was expecting over 2100 positively.in all the real sats i gave,my score range was 2100-2300,and i never got less then a 10 on the online course of collegeboard.i didn't time the tests exactly either and gave myself some xtra time.i guess dat caught me.
by how much do you expect to raise ur score in the december sat?

tromsyo, my native language is Spanish.

I guess you just have to understand the game behind Critical Reading. I learned a lot from Kaplan's free quizbank, you should take a look into it. The thing is, every single answer is in the passage. Don't assume anything, or don't choose an answer just because it seems logical, only select answers which are right according to the passage.

Of course, it helps if you have read many books. But it's pointless to start worrying about reading ... just relax, look for every answer in the passage, and feel lucky.

yea i think it was the extra time that made a difference! i don't know...i'm applying to schools like umich and USC, my gpa is 4.0 and i can't have my SATs being 1750! especially when i was expecting 2050-2100. so hopefully i just have to settle for over 2000...which might be possible since i was overconfident, overestimated the SAT and did not time myself accurately for practice tests...but it shows that if i was able to get 2100 on CB practice tests, then my problem isn't not being able to answer the questions...my problem is not being able to answer the questions FAST enough. obviously i'd be happier with a 2100...but then I'm being too positive again
