OCTOBER SAT Subject Test: Biology E/M

no protease blocking in lung: i put tuberculosis - why is it pneumonia?

grasshopper: why is excretion from head? also, if it were, head, wouldn’t it be (a) and not (d), since (d) was pointing to the antennae?

DNA sequence inversion: only two adjacent nucleotides should be inverted; thus, ATTGAC–>TATGAC.

Bleucheeseza–Oops. I was wrong about quoting someone. btw, thnx for the clarifications.

excretion is from the abdomen. NOT THE HEAD. sorry about the error

I don’t know about #3, I thought TTAGAC would work but maybe not. :(

About pneumonia–> the other answers either didn’t apply or are the end effects of smoking e.g. black lung and emphysema.

The smoking question asked about something along the lines of INITIAL effect of smoking and NOT A LATER/END EFFECT of smoking.

hope that’s more clear for you.

good luck to all on your scores!!!

anyone remember some M questions? in particular the last set (3 or 4 related questions)?

I don’t understand how smoking causes pneumonia…isn’t it emphysema? pneumonia is when your lungs fill up with fluids…emphysema is when your lung tissues are damaged.
Also for the evolutionary relationship question with the I,II, III format, was it I, II, and III? Option II was something about a flower secreting a bad smell to fend off predators..

Also, for the potato question why did it turn green?

I put I,II, and III and i didnt have a potato question (took M).

oh i see.
btw what do you anticipate will be the raw score cutoff for an 800?

I haven’t taken bio SAT II before so i only know what the practice books say. Think collegeboard says 76 can give you a 800 and since the general consensus is that this test was difficult, I’m guessing it will be less than 75…

For the potato question. wasnt it about the toxins and the leaves. I put it turn green as a result of chorophyll being excited..not sure tho.

i put that the color change was to warn away consumers of it…

what is usually associated with declining biodiversity? decreasing population
which biome has the most biodiversity? tropical rainforest
community- many food chains into a food web
biological control- one species to predate on another

Time to answer more questions and to correct myself XD

I googled emphysema and must admit that I am wrong.

dreambig-you are absolutely correct

**ephysema is the cause of the breakdown of protease inhibitors in the lung, which means +1 for me! YAY!

evolutionary relationship question with the I,II, III format is indeed I, II, and III!**

dreambig andgameaholic-

**potatoes turn green as seeds do as a result of chlorophyll production being excited.
**

dreambig and owner-as of the 2002-2003 subject test answer sheet that i have, -7 total questions with calculated penalties will give you an 800 on Ecology. You only can miss 5 on microbiology though, according to that year’s test.

dreambig-you are correct

@luv2dance
this is what i got

what is an inversion mutation
when 2 adjacent nucleotides are switched

what did u say for the galactisidose question? why was mutant 2 unable to synthesize it?
i said there was an error in the DNA, a guess though

what about the fetal hemoglobin vs. adult hemoglobin one?
fetal hemoglobin picks up O2 more readily in low pressures

and the yeast UV one? what did u say was the reason it turned red?
I put UV radiation can cause mutations..

For the one on galactidose one, how would u find out if new RNA nucleotides are needed for galactidose synthesis? before or after lactose is added??

These are the questions I was unsure of:
I took the bio-m test

The question about the middle ledge with the red and black birds(I think i got this wrong)
2.The final questions about the galactoside(why is it advantageous to E.Coli?..etc)

Galactoside question (something about before putting or after removing lactose)

one of the questions about the yeast cells (i don’t remember the specific question)<----the red colonies were a mutation in the DNA right?

yeah i put mutation in the dna too..

im also curious to see wht other people got for the galactoside questions

Are any of you guys thinking of cancelling your scores?
From what I remember I got 5 wrong.

I probably got some more wrong in the questions I don’t remember.

do you advise i should cancel my scores?

Sorry for double posting…

Could someone explain to me college boards new policy about submitting sat scores?
What does it state?
When will it be implemented?
What are benefits and drawbacks?
does it mean i will no longer have to cancel my scores?

google is your friend. So is collegeboard.
[Score Choice](Sending SAT Scores – SAT Suite | College Board)

Davezhan–you seem to know what you’re doing. How did u prepare for the test? i’m most likely canceling/retaking.

Can anyone help me out with the birds on the middle ledge question?

For some reason i think I got it wrong

I believe the correct answer was that some birds from both groups will utilize the middle ledge while the majority will stay on their respective preferred sides.

if I am wrong, please tell me!

hmm, i dont even remember that answer lol. shows how zoned out i was during this test. :P
