OCTOBER SAT Subject Test: Spanish

I thought the test was relatively easy compared to Barron's which was pretty hard...How many questions can you skip and still get 800?

I think you can skiup two... and I found it relatively very easy also, hoping for a perfect score... If God allows:)

No, actually u can skip 3:) or have two wrong

^ nice...
the only question i wasn't sure on was asking what is saludar like to mexicans...i was choosing between un acto ceremonial & un poesia tradicional

acto ceremonial:) I hesitated on the one aking what was significant about the carribean civilization for the american histoty... wasn't sure if inventaron nueva tecnología de agricultura o fueron el primer contacto entre el mundo europeo y las indigenas...?

What else did other people think? I don't think I did that well unfortunately.

i chose primer contacto since it didn't say anything about agricultural techniques...

gr8, so did I:)

definitely better than the june spanish test! i still had a little trouble with artiles + que though...

what was the answer to the part b question on the story about music: son __ se identifican ...?

not sure if I remeber the q, but now i see it i'd say son los que se identifican...

if one of the other answer choices was los cuales...then i put los que

was it SUYAS or SUYOS? for that guy living in a poor village that didnt exist yet. ("ya no existO" or "ya no existia" ?)

he was poor, but the casita he lived in and ? (taller / cartaron) he worked in belonged to him.

and do you guys remember the prescription passage? the answer choices were: a) receta b) discos compactos c) novel d) grabacion de espanol

the invitation was from "el alcade de madrid"
only the "people who were invited to" could attend.

the snow hotel passage: the last question on the page, something about "exito" del hotel. Estaba contruyendo los otras hoteles del mismo estilo.

P.S. Everybody in the nation has taken this test by now... right? I hope I'm not putting up the answers for people who haven't take the test...

Are you sure it was from "el alcalde de Madrid?" I didn't see anywhere on the invitation that the mayor was inviting these people.

I put a) receta.

I put taller.

I put what you put for the snow castle.

and I think it was suyos but I can't remember the question.

And I put existe but it was somewhat of a guess.

yeah, ya no existe (simple present tense)
apart from that, i had the same ones. can't remeber the context of the suyos/suyas

Why are there so few people discussing the Spanish test?
Just sharing some of my answers, which I hope are correct :)

-jubilado (retired people volunteering with the mother)
-taller, as well
-ya no existe (no longer exists)
-el alcalde de madrid (invited by el senor alcalde)
-..mundo le gusta el chocolate
-social position: # of people the Mexicans greet that day
- their hearts become warm/serene
- acto ceremonial
-first contact between the Europeans and the indigenous
-castellano words derived from those terms
-cuyo (something about a cousin)
-flexible hours, dye hair
-son suyos (more than one possession belonging to the guy)
-a menudo (talking on the phone)
-menor que (the recipe passage)
-the Aztecs 'tomaban'
-i chose 'los cuales' after erasing 'los que' since the sentence is referring to people, but i still can't decide
-you must call to donate blood and they'll come to your office
-que...fuera
-sino
-Santana's music brings generations together
- his life is triumphant
- he was known before the current fans were even born
- he's proud that despite his age, he is still having success
- born in Mexico

that's all I can remember for now

Hey by the way, how many years of Spanish have you guys taken? I'm planning on taking the test with 3.5 years of high school Spanish, do you think that's enough?

i don't think it's menor que if we're talking about the same qn. i thought it was something like: lo que mejor ilustra el uso del chocolate en platos salados es el pavo mexicano...

anjoola - if u like spanish and studied some extra, it should be ok. i took it after basically 2,5 yrs of sp @ school + independent study and lately novel and newspaper reading and am hoping for a top score...

lyrical lines
i got all of the same answers as u except for the los cuales one

i'm in my 6th year of spanish. i think the longer u wait to take the test the better...3.5 might not be enough unless u do some self-studying...since u prob haven't learned the pluperfect or imperfect subj

meili - it really depends, i learned the grammar from the kaplan textbook and it is rather straightforward once you've already studied some foreign lang... and then it is about text comprehension, so you have to have read a few texts:)
