Thanks srw and DR3azMT for your responses.
Hopefully I will see you there DR3azMT. My audition slot is from 10-11.
I'm a tall guy, black and I'll mostly likely be wearing a blue collared shirt and tie.
Will I have a chance to warm up when I arrive on campus? How much time will I have with the accompanist to discuss my selections?

They will take you to a practice room to warm up all you want. My S had the 3 required pieces ready and they had him choose one then they chose the other. You meet the accompanist when you go in for you audition, they give you a few minutes to discuss your choices with him(her). My S loved the accompanist, said he was very cool and was ammazing.

Okay great, thanks!
:D

I'll be auditioning the 8th as well.
Very excited.
I'm a short wide-eyed dark brunette probably in a salmon color.
I have two monologues - a comedic and a dramatic prepaired.
Would it be appropriate to ask which they would prefer, and have one in mind if they don't care?

My son says don't do the comedic if it's Neil Simon. Make sure they are age appropriate with no accents. As far as asking what they would prefer? He says he's not sure, the man was nice, just not very talkative. He also said most people were doing drama. Good Luck!

my comedic isn't neil simon, and its an 18 year old, so i think it would serve well.
together the two are under 3 min. so maybe ill get to do both, less likely, so ill expect to do one.
anyone else going from here?

I did a comedic monologue (not Simon) for my auditions. . . the auditioner(s) at OCU seemed to enjoy it. :-) Choose whichever one you think you do best - And, Good Luck!!!

~Kate

Clueless, my d and your s are dancing partners in tap.

ok, its over.
and it went pretty well.
i had an afternoon audition and i sang green finch and anyone can whistle, so i didnt get to sing my classical, but green finch is similar, so its ok.
they asked me questions (including how tall i am, haha a measly 5'2'' if i lie) and i was off.
now its just the wait.
mary mowry said two weeks, and i hope its that quick!
i loved watching the parade rehearsal, it was very inspiring!
good luck to all who went.

I just got back from my OCU audition. :)
The campus is beautiful, the faculty and students all seemed really great! I just got a really good feeling from OCU, hopefully in two weeks I'll be making plans to go to school at OCU :)
I had a morning audition on Saturday. I think I was the third person to do a monologue that day.
They let me choose my first song, I chose one of my MT songs and they chose the other song which was my classical.
After the audition I had the chance to see the play "Noises Off" which was absolutely hilarious. I think I almost died from laughing. :)
Good luck to everyone else who auditioned.
To any current students at OCU who may have been working at the audition I just want to say thanks for being so helpful and friendly!
It sure made the whole audition process less stressful. :)

actingreacting1, I was the person sitting in front of the vocal auditions. I think we had a long conversation. not sure.... but I hope your audition went well.

:) Yes. We most definitely had a conversation. It was nice meeting you and interrogating you about OCU.
Haha.
I think my audition went well but . . . only time will tell right?

so iguess its just me, but i got my letter today
i got into theater with a scholarship
but no musical theater or voice
weird because i sing a lot better than i act
oh well looks like i wont be at OCU afterall.
good luck to everyone else.

where is shauna???

does anyone know what has happened to shauna???

I got my letter today-- well . . . yesterday. :)
Whew . . . time sure flies by when you're on CC.
I was accepted to the BA Theatre Performance program.
Does anyone have any info about it? Perhaps a current student can offer some information?
Thanks
~Roger

1) Shauna is here at OCU, and I'm assuming is having a great time. She has gotten back into the swing of things and I think is doing well otherwise. Maybe she would come on here give an update (I'll tell her too next time I see her). :)

2) As to the BA program. All 12 shows put up by the theatre and music department are open to everyone in the school, so those opportunities are fairly equal. The primary differences between the BM and the BA program is the acting and vocal training. The primary voice faculty for the music school does not teach anyone except voice majors (ie: MT and VP). The BA students work with the adjunct faculty who are wonderful teachers, some of which have been working at the school longer than some of the primary faculty. I don't really know anything about the BA theatre curriculum, so I can't comment. But I know that there are many students who enjoy theatre at OCU and chose the program over the MT program.

If you havee any questions just PM me or post here, I will try and answerr them as best I can.

Our daughter has been accepted for vocal performance at OCU and at Hartt (and a couple of backups). We are down now to trying to figure out the values of each. Does anyone have any ideas about the comparative strengths of these two programs for someone that is interested in opera?

There is a substantial cost difference between the two that is some consideration, but my engineering brain knows how to measure this. Certainly much better than how to figure out if one program is substantially stronger than the other.

I would approciate any feedback or ideas on how others are approaching such decisions. Are there any better threads here for this topic?

Thanks -- a dad 2 3

DR3azMT--You said: "But I know that there are many students who enjoy theatre at OCU and chose the program over the MT program." You are saying that "many students," as in MANY students, turned down MT at OCU and instead are doing TP at OCU? Do you have numbers for that? Do you know that for a FACT? I'm sure a lot of people will be amazed by that statement...unless I am reading you wrong.

Adad23--I can't give you an idea of how to approach the decision, but my gut instinct is that VP at OCU would be well worth the investment for your daughter. If Hartt is less expensive than OCU, the travel costs might help offset that difference, and if Hartt is more, there is no contest IMHO.

MtMommy, there's no need to come off so aggressive toward David (DR3azMT). What Dave simply meant is that there are some TP majors who, for their own personal reasons, picked TP over MT even though they got in for both or MT. I think you were reading too deep into his statement. I don't think either one of us could you give numbers but there are a fair amount that chose this route.

OCUYankee, I'm sorry if you think I was being aggressive to David (who I have heard is a great person and his mom is very nice!). It's sometimes hard to tell tone from a post without accompanying facial expressions and gestures. But I don't think I'm reading too deep into his statement either. If I understand correctly what he and you are meaning, I find this very hard to believe. I have never heard of anyone choosing TP over MT at OCU--not that it couldn't happen, certainly. To my knowledge, people do not get accepted to MT and to TP at the same time, but to TP if they audition for MT and do not get accepted to MT. David's comment seems to go against everything I've ever heard about how things work at OCU. Anyone else have any idea?
