OCU - free ride to National Merit Finalists?

A question as I know OCU admissions folks often check this forum - OCU is on a list which indicates that students who are NM Finalists are given full tuition scholarships. Just wanted to check the validity of that(Although we - of course- do not know if there will be a NM finalist in our house,it will make a difference in our evaluation of programs and schools :)

Thanks!

Hi Mikksmom!

Glad you're interested in the NMS program at OCU. Admissions folks don't check this site, but I do (and I work for admissions part time so that might count).

I believe that you are correct in that NM finalists do receive a full scholarship to OCU. I do not believe that this applies to semi-finalists, but I'm sure there is some scholarship availability.

If you are on our admissions contact list, you should know your child's admissions counselor. If not, please call 1-800-633-7242 extension 5050 and ask for your state's admissions counselor. They'll be able to give you all the details. Thanks!

I was looking at the list for this year, and OCU was not on it. Does this mean Merit Scholarships are no longer offered, or are they just unofficial, like not through the National Merit program?

OCU's scholarships do not come from the National Merit Corporation. They are offered therough the school and the state (and you DO NOT have to be an OK resident).

It is an incredible package and very generous. There are 9 feshman NM Finalists this year we were told. Pretty impressive for a small school!

feel free to email or Pm me any questions.

MikksMom - I spoke to the admissions counselor on Thursday and she told me it was a "full ride" for a Nat'l Merit Finalist. I assumed that meant tuition/room/board but now I'm not sure. Is this right or does it mean full tuition only. Either way it's a very generous offer

Hi,
We also have a D on the Full Ride NMS. It is indeed tuition, room, board, fees, and $400 for books/year. It's an extremely generous package. Feel free to pm any questions!

Yep! It is everything. We are only paying travel (and some books). Everything else is paid for.

A great deal at a great school!
