OCU Summer Musical Theater

My D attended the program in 05 and as a result chose OCU over some other schools, primarily because of Frank Ragsdale’s vocal studio. The summer experience is wonderful; however, keep your options open for the BA. BM, BFA, whatever you choose. Best of luck.

My D is in Ragsdale’s studio, too. She loves him, and he is a great teacher.

Thanks littlemermaid! I’m keeping my fingers crossed too

Thank you as well, littlemermaid! I am curious, which session are you going to?

session one…when do you find out if you got in?

I think we will find out by April 10th. That feels like such a long ways away! I’m such an impatient waiter, haha
I asked for session one too! If all works out well, maybe we’ll get to work together! Let’s hope!

i’m such an impatient waiter too…i kept myself logged into my email, and turned the volume up so it would make a sound if i got a new email…(O:

I am new to this thread and I am so encouraged to read the great reviews about OCU’s summer musical theater program. My daughter was just accepted to their summer program and also to Broadway Theatre Project. She is a rising junior and I was wondering if anyone could give me some perspective as to how to compare these two programs so that we chose the one that is best for her. They both seem like great programs. SOS. Thanks!

Has anyone accepted to an OCU summer music program received their materials (beyond an acceptance email) yet? Didn’t know if they waited until the end of the admission process to send everything or not. Starting to look for el cheapo airfare…

yes i received my information a few weeks ago. i’m figuring out flight stuff too.

Good luck to all of you! I can not say too many good things about OCU’s summer music programs. My D has attended for the past 3 summers! There are very few summer MT programs you can attend where you are taught by the University faculty, NOT by grad students. Even more amazing is the fact that your production is directed by the head of the department! My D has learned sooo much from these programs. I feel they have been extremely instrumental in preparing her for college. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

thanks!! i’m so excited!!

I got into session 1!!! I’m so excited!!! I scared my mom to death when I called her because I was freaking out so much! This has been the longest waiting of my life seeing if I would get in from the waiting list. I guess it was a good preparation for waiting for colleges! I can’t wait till summer now!!!

Just spoke to OCU on the phone – my daughter is going to be attending Session 1!!! Perfect!

I was accepted too! I’m going to session two though, is anyone else?

My D was accepted to session 2 but also got acceptance from NYU Cap 21 so she is trying to raise money to go there…we haven’t heard from MPulse yet either.
If we can’t find $$$ she may be going to OCU…congratulations!!!

People who were accepted to OCU Summer from the second admission date – please post when your reservation packet arrives in the mail, and what part of the US you are in. I’ve been paranoid about these packets arriving ever since my daughter’s acceptance info to ABT (American Ballet Theatre) got lost in the mail a couple summers ago, and she almost lost her spot, due to “missing” a payment deadline we were unaware of! (Fortunately, it all worked out for her…but don’t care to repeat that experience!) She cannot wait for OCU’s program to begin!

I recieve my packet earlier this week (Monday I think) and I live in Virginia. I don’t know if this is relevant, but I was accepted off the waitlist on Tuesday of last week.

I am new to this whole things, I just need to get some information before I send my child to this camp. So, my D had a friend who went there last summer and said that the camp counselors were really really mean and one of them yelled at the campers all the time. I was wondering if anyone else had that problem? I am not sure if I am wanting my child to go to a place like that.

MommaR…please don’t judge any program by what ONE kid says. That may be her experience or perspective and would have no bearing on how your child will experience the program. If you read the many threads and posts just on this forum on just this program, you will read countless positive accounts. Please read through all the comments over the years here about the program and contact members who have attended or who have kids who have attended. Ask the program itself for references of past campers.

What one kid perceives as mean may very well be based on their own experience. Perhaps that friend did not have a good relationship with the counselor.

The program itself has a good reputation. I know many who have attended who have loved it and had a positive experience.
