OCU Summer Musical Theater

When D did OCU’s summer program a few years ago, I remember they did fill up her session with kids, but I don’t remember the exact number…maybe their website gives an indication of how many they have room for, and it may have changed since then. There were two summer sessions, and I think we grabbed the last spot in the first session that year. It’s a pretty popular program and will most likely fill up!

A couple posts back someone mentioned around 50 kids/session. I think I’ve seen that approximate number given in a second place as well. I think both times it was someone speaking about a session they or their child had attended.

I’m going to apologise in advance if I missed this information somewhere lurking in the depths of this thread or elsewhere on the site (also posted in the main summer program thread):

I have a student who was accepted this morning into OCU’s 3 week summer program (yay!). They want an answer by Monday though, which both for financial reasons as well as wanting to see what else she might get offered, she doesn’t want to commit quite that quickly. I advised her parents contact the school and see what their options are. OCU is probably her first choice, but it’s also super expensive and she missed the financial aid deadline. Does anyone have any experience with this situation? Can she accept and then rescind if necessary? Her first tuition payment isn’t due until 4/1 so I assume she could, but I know that OCU will be one of her top choices for programs when she goes to apply for college programs next year…so we don’t want her to look flaky either!

Any input would be greatly appreciated! I’ve got some research to do on summer program ins-and-outs haha :)

My daughter received her acceptance to the 3-week MT program this past Friday and she is thrilled to be going! We’re from the East Coast and she’s never been west of the Mississippi, so it’ll be a whole new experience. We’ll be interested to know if others are going from the New York area.

To follow up my previous comment, no more concerns. She accepted the program over the weekend. Softque, looks like your daughter and my student will be classmates this summer! She’s really excited as well. Going to send you a PM. Congrats!

Has anybody heard regarding acceptance into the OCU summer program lately?

My son was accepted this morning and is over the moon! Like softique, he has never been west of the Mississippi either, he can’t wait!

My daughter was admitted to OCU Summer Musical Theater 3 week session this morning! She is very excited! ! We have other applications out there – trying to get a feel for where OCU rates as compared to TPAP or U Arts – any opinions? Regardless we are both over the moon! Our California girl may be spending the summer in Oklahoma!

Hi! This is actually my first post on CC, but I’ve been lurking for a while. I got accepted to the 3 week summer session at OCU yesterday!!! And I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on this program versus MPulse at UM? Just wondering… Thanks! So excited to be in!!!

Jewel15 hi! my daughter was accepted yesterday as well! We are in California, she is a Sophmore. We are waiting on mpulse as well and debating whether to apply to UArts, all great programs as you can see from the awesome responses above (thank you all!)

[s, I know this sounds bad, but Oklahoma is the only thing that scares me about OCU – we are from California and I think summer in Oklahoma could be a shock to my daughter – but if the program is as good as I hear, she will welcome it.

Yeah, I’m from Alaska, so either one will probably shock me too  Tell your daughter that I wish her the best of luck on UArts and MPulse maybe we’ll end out going to the same place!

My daughter went to OCU one year and mPulse the next. Both are great programs. Both give a good feel for what it’s like to study MT in college. A difference in the 2 is that OCU uses the evenings to rehearse a full show which they present at the end of camp. They also offer cabaret performance opportunities. My D really enjoyed that. Both give you an opportunity to get to know faculty and campus. And both programs are well respected. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. They are so busy at OCU there is not a lot of time to explore Oklahoma City. MPulse had a little more free time during which they shopped, ate out and even went to a lake one day.

Thanks so much for the info, vvnstar!

Does anyone have advice for how to approach OCU with additional time? We are waiting on MPulse and TPAP audition next week – and honestly I do not know which she would choose but we want to wait and see. If I call OCU do I tell them we have other applications? Do I accept and then say no later? Neither is a good option. Any opinions or advice appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone hear yet about okc or those submitted by feb 20th and were to be notified thus week?

My D just got her notice of acceptance into the 5 week summer program yesterday via email. She is really excited! :-bd

Does anyone know if there is a facebook group for those attending OCU Summer 2014? Thought it would be a good chance for kids to chat – I know they do it for Mpulse.

That sounds like a great idea @lauramomatty! That way they could get to know each other beforehand…but I do not know of any.

My D attended the OCU Summer MT program last year (2013). There was a facebook page for the kids. It was created about 3 months in advance by JoBeth. Hope this helps!
