OCU Summer Vocal Arts Program

Is anyone else attending this program at OCU? I know that "Chelle's" D is but I haven't seen anything from anyone else (I know the materials haven't been sent out yet either). I just wondered if anyone else was going or has been there before and knows anything about it? Both our Ds are staying for the 2nd MT session too!

As I am sure you noticed form the other thread, my son is attending the first MT session at OCU but not the vocal arts.

I wonder if we are seeing nothing about the Vocal Arts program posted here because it also includes the college undergraduates?
Since we seem to be talking about OCU's summer programs again, if you or your son or daughter is attending, what type of voice do they have? My D is a lyric soprano.

wow congrats to both of youon getting accepeted to the MT summer program! I heard it was very competitive this year. I went last year and it was alot of fun. I really did learn alot and the dance class esp. was great as was the teacher. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them as honestly as I can. It did have it's ups and downs but overall it was a very good experience and I was sad to leave it. I know a few girls who went to the vocal academy the week before and said it was amazing. There were about 25 girls and they all really bonded and had a blast. It seems to be all girls and then the boys came from musical theatre. Alot of Ok, and Texas last year, but I know they threw their geographic net wider this year so to speak.

Yes, they certainly did go father afield as they were in Rochester, NY the Monday after Thanksgiving!
I'd love to know more wbout the dance program, DefyingGravity04- was it divided into ballet, tap, jazz, MT or how did they set it up? In fact, please share whatever you'd like to as I may not be able to get out there to see her perform at all ( out airports here have the highest fares in the nation, so...)Feel free to PM me if you'd rather,
Thanks for the help!

Yeah, I live in New York City, so I know they do suck lol. The first day there was a dance audition for placement, and they taught a combination that they planned to use in the show. You then got placed into either Blue(Beginner), Red (Intermidiate) or White (Advanced). I was in Blue, since I am not much of a dancer. It was a general dance class, I would say leaning more toward jazz than ballet, We learned combinations and did them and we learned moves and did them across the floor. I am sure there was more combinations for the more advanced dancers. There was no choice of diff dance classes, there was one general class, and there was no tap, but they had us take a survey at the end of what classes we would like to see added for the coming summer and I know people put tap. I know that they have revamped all the classes for this year and added more , so there might be more of a selection in terms of types of dance this year. I think they are doing 2 sessions this year instead of one. The first show is Pajama Game and the second in Les Miz so that should be fun. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

Thanks for the dance info!! Actually,BOTH sessions are doing Les Mis- the change was made several weeks ago, so no Pajama Game this year. Also, the sessions have not been broken down, they are just listed as "Voice, theory, dance, etc." so that hasn't been decided yet either.

I was told that we would hear today whether my d was accepted, but have not heard a thing. Anyone else hear on the 15th

Give them a call tomorrow so you don't spend the weekend wondering! Which session is she trying for and is it MT or Vocal Arts? Everyone there is terrific and very easy to talk to. Good luck to your D- I hope she gets to go.!Keep us posted.
