Just returned from a fabulous weekend at OCU. On Friday night we attended Starry Night, a tribute to OCU?s legendary voice professor Florence Birdwell. Kristen Chenoweth, Kelli O?Hara and other of her former students performed at the 2,500 seat Civic Center, the proceeds of which are establishing an endowed professorship in Ms. Birdwell?s name. We also attended the reception afterwards where these Broadway and opera stars were so very accessible and gracious. We?ve seen shows on Broadway with these performers, but to see them in this venue was just incredible. It was so enlightening to hear them talk about their days at OCU. Many sang songs from their Senior Recital. The show started with a song by her current students (S included). They had so much fun mingling backstage with the ?stars.?

Saturday we saw the Theater department?s presentation of The Children?s Hour which was an excellent show that featured a very talented cast.

I can?t express how happy we are with the entire OCU experience. Great school!

I will concur that the theater department presentation of Children's Hour was excellent (I may be biased because my D was in the cast!) . I did not get to see the Starry Night tribute on Friday, but I heard it was fantastic. D was in a master class with Kelli O'Hara earlier in the week and said it was wonderful as well. Good things happening at OCU. I love being there when I visit.

Starry Night was absolutely amazing! (Despite basically driving and walking through a flood to get there). My friends and I walked into the reception (they weren't checking a list or anything) but they felt uncomfortable after a few minutes, and as one of them was driving, I had to go, too. I would have loved to meet Kristin! I met Kelli O'Hara the day before, as we were waiting out the tornado warning in the basement at the end of the master class. She was talking to a few of us about how even if OCU doesn't get an actual showcase together, we should make one up ourselves during spring break of our sr. year.

And if anyone has a recording of the performance, please let me know! I recorded Girl in 14G and Glitter and Be Gay, and then I found out afterwards that my camera doesn't do audio!
