Hey guys, I just submitted my app to the Faculty of Science and maybe I'm just being paranoid but the app seems wayyy too simple. It doesn't even ask for your GPA or an essay/personal statement. My apps to US schools like JHU and Northwestern took hours but this took about 20 minutes. Is this normal?

Also chance me maybe?
SAT I: (2290) CR800, M740, W750
SAT II: Math II: 770, Chem: 750
Intended majors: chemistry, biology
GPA: 3.98 out of 4 (weighted)
Canadian citizen
IB Diploma
Extra: student council, jazz band, NHS, cross country, chem club

Yes, this is normal. Canadian universities admit by the numbers: GPA and test scores (for Americans). No essays, EC’s, ref letters etc. There are also no “hooks” in admission: URM, athletic, legacy etc. You do have to submit your test scores and transcripts of course.

If you apply for a major merit scholarship, there is a separate application that asks for all the typical extras that are not required on the admission application.

Are you in high school in Canada or the US?

Oh I see. So I guess I don’t have to worry since I’ve sent my test scores and school transcripts. Thanks for the reply!

I go to a high school in Canada but I’ve researched so much on US schools that I know practically nothing when it comes to Canadian ones.

Also, I noticed that you’re a McGill Alumnus from your thread. Would you say it’s hard to stand out from the crowd at McGill (since there are so many students)? I need to know because I’m doing premed and I’ve read that at many big, competitive US schools all premeds have the same GPA, MCAT scores, activities, etc.

I’m applying into Faculty of Science as well, and if I’m quite honest, the application freaks me out a little bit too. As far as I can tell there is nowhere for me to list ECs, no teacher or guidance counselor recommendations required, and no essays to write. It seems far too simple to me.
