Odd Mason Gross (Rutgers) Rejection?

So today my D, who has been accepted to Rutgers for the School of Arts and Sciences since December, got a big packet in the mail from Rutgers (note: NOT from Mason Gross, but from Rutgers as a whole) Among the 12 pages in the packet was one tiny titled "YOUR ADMISSIONS STATUS" followed by "Mason Gross School of the Arts: It will not be possible to admit you for the September 2010 semester.(and then 2 generic sentences describing the application process)"

She went to check her Rutgers Online Profile and next to MASON GROSS it says "Not Admitted".

While she's upset (but taking it far better than I am, I must say) I want to console her by telling her that I don't think this is really a rejection letter. I think that this is just what Rutgers has on file for her application because MG hasn't made it's decision yet. I want to tell her to wait until she gets a formal letter from Mason Gross before getting upset. But I don't know what to do. Is this really her 'rejection letter'? One sentance among a huge packet of things that don't pertain to Mason Gross at all?

Has anyone else gotten this, or know something about how Mason Gross usually handles admissions/rejections? Thanks for any and all help!

Vague recollection from when my daughter applied to both Arts and Sciences & Mason Gross dance program a couple of years ago… I believe that this merely means that the school has not yet heard from Mason Gross. The Rutgers acceptance was very quick (as in a couple of days). I think the Mason Gross stuff may come later. Good luck! Don’t fret. Maybe call Rutgers to ask on Monday.

When I applied to Mason Gross during my college search (about 4 years ago) they were very odd about answering me as well. First I got a notification like the one you talked about, so I made a follow-up call and was told I was rejected. Then in mid-May they called me and told me I was accepted. Very weird… and clearly too late. I don’t think they’re a very well organized program, just from that personal experience and hearing about yours now, too.

got the same weird package. Accepted to Newark and Camden with substantial scholarship, but “not possible MG”, etc. We took it as a rejection. Seems their notification process is as perfunctory as their auditions.

Should we call them and ask? Or should we wait until April 1st, when they initially told us they would make their decision? I’m nervous and confused now, this is not the best way to handle acceptances/rejections :[

My s was notified of his acceptance at Mason Gross for acting when he logged onto the web site 3/13

Mason Gross had an acceptance rate of 11% back around 1998, and it fluctuated between 13 & 15% a decade ago. Currently, it is still a very prestigious 18% acceptance rate. You have to keep that in mind. It’s a challenge/accomplishment to get into Mason Gross.
