Hi guys,
So, I’m an international undergraduate student studying in a small university in Ohio currently, and I have a slightly strange story of how I got here… If you could assess my situation and tell me if my previous performances will hurt my chances of transferring out of my current school, I’d greatly appreciate it. So here goes…
I previously attended university in my home country, and never did well. Failed a ton of courses, and was forced to drop out due to my poor performances (which were caused by many things, from personal apathy to illness, injury and family problems). It reached a point where I couldn’t carry on, and so I decided to apply to schools in the US, so I could start over with a clean slate. I had a fairly decent highschool profile and had an above-average 1960 on my SAT, so I thought I stood a good chance of making it into a good school.
When applying, a ton of schools requested my university transcripts (which were bloody awful) which resulted in me being rejected from literally every school I applied to, bar two (my current institution and another). Being forced into a corner, I decided to make the best of what I had and enrolled at my current school in Ohio, and managed to do pretty well (currently have a 3.93 GPA), found some passion for the major I chose to study (which was co-incidentally the same major I was forced to drop out of in my home country) and worked on myself…
While I’m glad my current school gave me the opportunity to prove myself, financial troubles at my school (not personal troubles; the university is going through a very rough patch in terms of finances), the funding is getting cut and a lot of the good professors at my school are losing their jobs or jumping ship to greener pastures, which is making me consider transferring to a better school in the US.
I’ve picked out a few schools that I’m hoping to transfer to, including:
- University of Washington-Seattle
2)University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
3)University of Massachusetts-Amherst
4)University of Colorado-Boulder
5)University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
6)The Ohio State University
Given that these schools are pretty ambitious, I know I’m asking for a lot to get into any of them, let alone all of them… but based on your knowledge and experience, what do you think my shots of making it into these schools will be? I expect to have 70 or so credits when I transfer and I have some work experience and volunteering experience to add to my profile as well. And my major right now is Computer Science, and I hope to stick to it and eventually do a PhD.
Thanks for your help in advance guys, I sincerely appreciate it!
