Odd situation, advice needed

Hello all,

I've placed myself in a bit of a predicament. I applied and was accepted to U of M (LSA) for the fall 2011 semester. Shortly after, however, I suffered from severe mental health and family difficulties that caused my grades to sharply drop the last semester of high school.

I ended up choosing another state university, where my difficulties followed me into my first few weeks of classes. It didn't help that my initial campus experiences were miserable. I decided to withdraw (it was too late to drop, unfortunately) from all of my classes to focus on settling the issues at hand.

Thankfully, I am already in a much better situation and I am eager to attend classes. However, I am unsure of how to approach my educational future. My main goal is to attend U of M as soon as possible.

Do you think I could be accepted, with proper medical documentation and explanation, for the fall 2012 semester? Or should I not bother and attend community college to improve my grades, applying after a few semesters? I am concerned the most with the fact that my transcripts from this semester are straight W's and that I will most likely be obliged to submit them, technically as a transfer student.

Here are some high school stats, if it helps:
- GPA, prior to last semester: 3.9 (unweighted)
- ACT: 34
- AP Scholar with Honors
