In the mail today my son received a letter from the Dept of Computer Science that they are offering him advanced admission into the concurrent Bachelor's/Master's program. The letter goes on to say that this is a special honor conferred upon entering students with particularly outstanding academic records and standardized test scores. The screwy thing about the letter is the timing -- why now instead of when his admission offer was received? He's been debating between JHU (no scholarships) and Rice (with scholarships) for a while now, and finally made his decision to attend Rice a few days ago and sent in his deposit. Although this letter doesn't offer any merit aid, who knows whether it would have tipped his decision in a different direction if it had been received sooner.

Admissions_Daniel -- if you read this, you might want to mention to the Departments that letters like this would have more of an impact if they're received more than 5 days before deposits are due!
