Odds for UCSD

Okay, I'm just a sophomore, so obviously it's early, I still have 5 more semesters of high school, but I'm already freaking out. Here were my grades for the 1st semester of my sophomore year:

AP European History- C+
English 3-4 Accelerated (we don't have a 3-4 Honors)- B+
Chemistry Honors- A
Spanish 1-2- A
Algebra 3-4/Trig- A
Athletic PE- A (I know it doesn't count)

So my UC Weighted GPA is 3.8, 3.4 unweighted (if we exclude PE). I'm only freaking out now because I planned on having an A in English, but my teacher refused to enter an assignment into the gradebook which knocked my grade down just enough for me to lose my A-. I'm still thinking about going to the school board about that, but I'm just going to assume nothing will change.

For AP Euro if I get a 5 on the AP Test, which is plausible (the courses' tests are meant to be much harder than the AP Test and I'm very good at DBQs), both semesters will turn into As. But I'm not banking on that.....

So anyway, the question. I'm trying to get into UCSD. I have a while left and I'm sure I can cover any lost ground, but if the trend continued, and I ended up with a 3.4 unweighted, 3.8 weighted, what would my odds me. I obviously can't give final results, but assume I have 200 hours of community service through a single charity, and say I get a 2150 on the SAT. What would the odds be?

I was really hoping to have a 4.0 weighted GPA, and I wouldn't be worried at all if that were the case. But having below a 4.0 weighted.... I don't know it seems too low to me. Am I overreacting? Is a 3.8 weighted good enough for a school like UCSD?

Thought I’d add, I play volleyball at Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach, CA), currently ranked #2 in the nation. Very competitive, so like most sophomores I’m not on varsity yet. Thought I’d add sports in there though.

MCHS is a very competitive school academically, but I don’t know how much school quality factors into all of this. I know it helps, but would it make a 3.8 weighted good enough to compete with most 4.0s?

My GPA freshman year was a 3.9, all As first semester, then second all As except for one B+. No weighted classes were available for freshman.

My Accelerated English class is the highest level you can take sophomore year, but it isn’t weighted. Will the fact that it is technically an honors level course help at all, even if it doesn’t directly boost GPA?

I also already have general ideas of who to have write my letters of recommendation, I definitely know who I’ll have write my personal and for my teachers I think I have 2 who will. Should I think of more?

When I go to college, I’d like to major in Chemistry. Do you think that if my grades continue the way they are, getting a few average grades here and there but mostly As, the fact that I always get an A in my Math and Science will help them ignore the subjects I didn’t do as well in?

I know a lot of people are going to tell me not to stress, it’s still early. I know that, hell, if I can get all As and a 5 on the AP Test this semester, my GPA will be a 4.3, but that’s not the point. I’d like to know if everything is fine and there’s no need to stress, or if I really need to put everything in my life on hold and work as hard I humanly can.

i think you still have a very good chance. your gpa isnt as bad as you seem to think it is, espescially since you have pleny of time to bring it up. dont sweat it! just focus on your grade and im sure you will get into ucsd.

i wouldnt mind a chance back  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/861966-chance-me-please-cmu-cornell-wvu-others.html
