SAT SCORE-
First try (in 10th grade)- 530 Critical Reading; 550 Math; 480 Writing (1560)
Second try (11th grade)- 580 Critical Reading; 580 Math; 610 Writing (1790)

I am taking them again in later October, and have been doing an online course so I hope to improve.

GPA unweighted: 4.0
GPA weighted: 5.165

Class Rank: 18/276.

EC:
Young Women Leaders
Key Club
4H
Fieldhockey + basketball

I have a bunch of community service hours, as well as work experience.

6 honors classes(english 1+2, algebra 2, chemistry, history 1+2, biology), 3 AP classes(physics, history, english 3), and then 3 more AP classes my senior year(psychology, biology, english 4)

I am in state, and really want to get into the pharmacy program. I think the only thing hurting me is my SAT, but I am trying to pull that up.

So, does anyone think I have a shot?

with that SAT score...i dont think so....cause most ppl in RU PHARM have at least a 1400...but nice GPA tho!

how do you have a stellar gpa, but below avg scores??
bring up that SAT to maybe 650-700 in each and yer a shoe-in

Your SAT hurt.. but your ECs hurt too.. if you can take AP Chem over Bio, I definately would...
Also you science electives are nil...
that will hurt you for Pharm, if you can start volunteering at a hospital or pharmacy that will help out with the ECs and then if you are really industrious do some personal research, maybe the young epidemiology scholarship.. just working on it will help.
And the scores need to come up 200-300 points.. I would suggest taking the ACT also.. I had better luck.. and it has a science portion.
Best of luck!

i probably should have stated that i work in a nursing home. i have also shadowed a pharmacist.

my school is pretty sucky when it comes to ap classes. apchem and apbio are offered every other year. but last year the apchem and ap physics periods overlapped. and i took physics because i hoped to take the second half of it this year. however this year the ap physics and ap bio overlapped. so i took the bio because i find it more interesting and i hoped it would look better.

i just cant stand sitting down and taking a test for a prolonged period of time. my mind starts to wander.

i have a stellar gpa because i work my ass off.

however, working my ass off does not really help me with SAT. i have have taken the online course and have gone to a tutor. it just doesnt work for me

I know SATs suck..but is something we all must go through.. This is going to sound really crazy but try learning a little about poker.. pot odds and such.. a lot of those techniques actually help with SAT.. chess also. I know this sounds crazy but I took an SAT prep class and he used this stuff and my scores raised 300 points.. we also studied vocab and did a bunch of single practice tests.
For me a lot of it was in my mind, after I did bad on the first test I couldn't get over it.. finally the last test I was like "screw it, they can shove their SAT scores because these don't really determine my happiness or cability and they are just trying to trip me up"... and I made a 2000... 270 point above last time (I took it 4 times).
So just don't worry about it.. as crazy as that sounds.

And the nursing home and pharmacist bit help clear up your ECs some... so just keep your head up

i think my main problem with the SAT (although i dont know if it matters much) is that i find it impossible to leave things blank. it kills me. and while i leave a lot more blank then i did my first try, i always feel the need to guess. oh well. i have taken the sat's three times now- my highest score is the best i am getting. hopefully it will be good enough for rutgers, and if not i applied to other pharmacy schools that i would be willing to attend. yes, rutgers is my top, but i got accepted into my second choice (USP) and i may just have to live with that.

Then, perhaps the ACT is for you. No penalty for guessing.
