Ode to WebReg

Ode to WebReg

Oh how do I hate thee, let me count the ways
1. You are a bastard
2. You have one purpose, to let people register for classes, and you cannot do that
3. You are a fat cow
4. Your errors suck (any CS majors that can help me lol)
5. I cannot beat you over the head because you are software (hmm, where is that server?)
6. You malfunction only when people need you to work
7. You say try again in a few seconds but you mean in a few millenia

Fat cows produce lots of milk though, and provide lots of food. :D
Oh and I'm pretty sure you can can count many more then that.

I am ****ed cause i was going to get into pomeroy's class but when i clicked on the section number it said there was an error, and i tired a bunch of things to get around the error but they didnt work. Then i restart my comp and it worked but all of the seats were gone and now i am on the waitlist (1st in line)

lol, you told me that you didn't think many ppl would be signing up in your classes. That's ironic what happened there.

No, it's not ironic. Mathtastic_nerd expected that not many people would sign up, not that webreg would go error-free. He is stuck on the waitlist not because too many people signed-up, but because webreg blows.

WebReg sucks. A lot. Oh, except when you get one of the first enrollment times and you are one of the few people using it...

Yeah, the classes i thought no one else would sign up for i got (an upper-division poli sci class and math 20e) but the other classes, including chem, posed the problems. I am comforted by the fact that my advanced standing will get me a good time next quarter, yay. Btw, just wondering, Beware0fNerd what is your major?

What's your standing mathtastic_nerd?
Is it common for frosh to come in with sophomore standing?
I think I'll be starting off with 52 before I take any classes at UCSD and have 70 by the end of first quarter.

I still have freshman standing, but with ~30 credits. I would have had more if i had paid more attention to the college classes i took in high school (a few of my college classes didn't transfer).

52?? Thats pretty good...

And I am Bio... Either general or cell/biochem... Don't know yet. Why do you ask??

How does advanced standing play a role? And what is advanced standing, really?
I am incoming with 84 credits, most are useless electives. Is that gonna help me in any way?

0.0 - 44.9 Freshman
45.0 - 89.9 Sophomore
90.0 - 134.9 Junior
135.0 Senior

By 90 you have to be a declared major. Some classes require senior standing. You sign up for classes in order of how many credits you have.

So right now you are a sophmore, in a quarter you will be a junior.

I have 24 credits right now, would that significantly help? Or only help just a bit?

In what sense? In terms of course enrollment, it will give you a leg up on the people who did not have a lot of credit going in.

enrollment times aside from fall quarter for freshmen are based on how many credits you have right?

correct (10 char)

fyi, webreg sucks because it only gets heavy load 4 times per year (winter reg, spring reg, continuing fall reg, and new enrollment fall reg).

they have said it does not make financial sense to upgrade the systems to support such a temporary heavy load and let them sit idle all other times. this is another reason you have assigned enrollment start times.

So is registration with WebReg closed off now? Or is it only until Sept. 1 as other new students register for classes?

Yeah it will open after New Student Enrollment is over.

is this week a second batch of new students?
