At Brown I know so many pre-med kids. There were hundreds of kids in my orgo class. I wonder approximately how many of those pre-med ppl actually apply to med schools each year.

I do not think that's very relevant. What really matters is the fact that Brown is one of the top 5 schools in the country in numbers of premeds who get admitted to medical school after they apply. ( I believe, Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Stanford are the other 4 )

i guess i have to ask andrew simmons

As Moviebuff said, it really is irrelevant...

At the engineering presentation in early August the Dean noted that 1/3 of the students in engineering go on to medical school. I was trying to decide if that was a good thing for engineering or a not so good thing for engineering as a program and, if that was a good thing for non-med school engineering students, or a not so good thing. Haven't decided yet! However, otherwise, my son really enjoyed the presentation by the Dean of engineering and we were both sad about how difficult it is to be admitted to Brown!

too many..

I have seen 2 conflicting numbers.

9% (princeton review: <a href="http://princetonreview.com/college/research/profiles/studentbody.asp?listing=1023917<id=1&intbucketid=%5B/url%5D">http://princetonreview.com/college/research/profiles/studentbody.asp?listing=1023917<id=1&intbucketid= ) and 259 (AMCAS: http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/2006/mwhite.htm)

I trust the 259 since it comes from AMCAS (the medical school application service)

and 93% of applicants from Brown get admitted to medical school... national average is 50%

9% is the figure of Brown students going to med school UNPON graduation. Many take leaves, etc.

hey what the hell don't forget hopkins!!!

Organic chemistry is required for concentrations other than pre-med (chemical engineering would be one example). Not everyone who takes organic chem. plans on applying to med school.

chriscap,
Hopkins is a great school and one of the best med schools in the country, however, their placement of premeds into med school is not in the top 5. The top 5 programs are the ones I mentioned, all placing over 90 % of their premeds..
