just wondering...about what percent of cornell applicants gets likely letters?

or... percent of admits?

i posted this under a different thread as well, but...

according to "uncle ezra" (you can ask questions about cornell, http://ezra.cornell.edu/):
Question 11 - - March 9, 2004 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Does cornell admissions send out likely letters

Dear prospective,

Yes, you are advised if you are accepted or if you are on a waiting list. Is that what you mean? You can check through the website with the password they gave you. Good luck.

Uncle Ezra

i guess that implies that cornell sends likely letters to all admitted applicants? <panic attack=""> what are my chances if i havent received one yet?</panic>

They send them out, but not to everyone.

I heard from somewhere it's 5%, but don't quote me

why do they send out likely letters to 5%. . . . . .I think it worries the other 95% more than it takes the pressure of 5%

Yes, but from Cornell's perspective, they're not sending likelies out to ease the anxiety of that small percentage right? Aren't likelies sent out to those that they are reeeally eager to take? The ones they want to have a "hold" on to in case the applicant is tempted to some other college that could steal them away? shrugs

Frankly, likelies hardly matter at this stage of the game anymore. I'd be much happier receiving a confirmed place than a likely letter. :)
