I guess their reason is that an EA applicant has more interest in the school than an RD. Whether or not that is actually the case is debatable, but that’s the logic I’m guessing.

“Interest” is illogical and from the small sampling here, many EA’s apply as a “safety” and have no intention of accepting an offer if accepted to their preferred school.
It would seem, to me anyway, that RD’s have MORE interest because they’re not submitting their apps as “safeties”.

Not necessarily, Stage.

For one, I submitted my application early, because I really wanted to go to Binghamton. If I were accepted, there probably would have been a good 70% chance I would go there as a Freshmen.

I kind of expected that kind of response, stage4survivor, as I have heard of it more than once. I understand that there are many alternatives. In all honestly, I applied EA because I truly want to go to Binghamton after a campus visit over the summer as well as for academic reasons. Yet you can’t go so extreme as to say that “from the small sampling here”, EA’ers have no interest, although I DO understand the point that SOME apply to Bing as a safety. Key word: Some. Additionally, you really can’t base it on the CC population, as I’m sure that we’re all very well-educated individuals who actually CARE about our education-otherwise, we wouldn’t really be here. Given that, I’m sure that part of “the small sampling here”, there’s bound to be some who would apply to Bing as safeties since we’re well-educated individuals, we may reach towards “better” schools.

I too applied EA because Bing is my top choice and I wanted to hear from them as soon as posssible. The fact that I got deferred is ironic. I’m just telling what they told me on my deferral letter. If what they say is true then my high level of interest and initiative shown by applying early is the reason.

Sadly, the AsCom cannot “divine” who has genuine interest and who doesn’t.
However, If I were deferred, I would send in updated grades, scores, etc to send a “signal” that Bing IS my preference, perhaps call it a subtle “nudge”.

;-)

True, and I think that’s a messed up thing. I can say for a fact that if I was accepted Early, I’d put my admission deposit the second I could; I 100% want to attend Binghamton.

So did EAs (early action) actually get rejected from bing? (I also got deferred)
