<p>W&M is way underrated at 3.8. More a reflection of grad school rating than quality of underegrad student body.</p>

<p>That's because they aren't rating the student body. It is primarily a rating of faculty. Students get their own ratings (SAT, Top 10% etc).</p>

<p>Faculty at W&M are hired to teach first and research second. This isnt the case at other schools. US News actually made an attempt to highlight this back in the 90s and rated Brown/Dartmouth/W&M as the best National schools re teaching faculty. </p>

<p>Sadly it has been dropped by the wayside.</p>
