hi, i am a junior looking to apply to unc next yr. I really want to get 3 teacher recs in addition to my scoutmaster as a rec. Is that too many that UNC will hold it against me?

If I remember correctly, I only had one teacher and one guidance counselor write reccomendations. I would think that as long as those reccommendations said different things about you it'd be fine. Maybe less teacher reccomendations though.

"less is more" applies well to the teacher rec situation. i, too, only had one teacher rec and one counselor rec, and apparently they were both really good and helped get me in. find the one teacher who knows you best and who you know will write a stellar rec for you. 4 recs plus the counselor rec is a bit much, and i doubt those 3 teachers will ALL write unique things about you, you know? sometimes, they can get a bit generic. i would suggest one really good teacher rec, scoutmaster rec (since im assuming he/she knows you extremely well), and the required counselor rec. so three total =)

Recs are the last thing that loook at anyway. I read a whole article about the UNC admissions process. They just use them to confirm their decision. It won't change based on your recs 99.9% of the time.

4 or 5 recs is probably overkill. I'd narrow it down to 2 or 3 really good ones. You don't want to send anything generic.

i had 2 teacher recs plus my debate coach, and i got into the honors program. i think 3 is a good number because i had one science teacher, one english teacher, and one coach who knew me really well writing them, so they could all say something different.
