Hello, I took my first semester (fall '09) at Michigan in CoE, and am taking the current semester at a community college. I need to take Engr 100 in the fall, and was told by my academic advisor that they are trying to restrict all non-freshmen to section 200, 400, and 800. These are: Engr Design & the Real World (which I hear is terrible, mixed reviews on rate my professors but multiple people have told me the professor is awful), Engineering Renewable Energy (not especially interested in this... though I bet it could be cool, good reviews), and Engineers Making A Difference (I have no idea what this is about, professor has mixed reviews). The professors are Daida for section 200, Phillips for section 400, and Meadows for section 800. So, can anyone reccomend one of these sections to me, or tell me anything about them (especially the 800 section since I have no idea what that is).

I sent someone an email asking if I could do one of the CSE type sections (I want to do CSE) but I don't know if they'll let me.

I'm going to also EECS 280 and EECS 203, and some other class which will give me credit for flexible electives, so workload is a concern. A great Engr 100 section with an insane work load is not a good choice for me.

Also, I wanted to know… Am I allowed to have a schedule with a time conflict? In my case it would be between Engr 100 and EECS 280 or 203, where I would go to an EECS 280 lecture which isn’t mine. If not I’m pretty much out of options (section 800 would be the only one that would fit).

engr100 section 400 is probably the worst nightmare i will ever encounter. if its taught by jasprit singh, take my advice, avoid him. the title sounds really interesting, heck i was misled by the descriptions when i registered.

Bearcats, that’s pretty much what I’ve heard from everyone else too.

Square, it’s taught by Jamie Dean Phillips, who is highly reviewed on RateMyProfessors. Is it awful beyond the professor, or just that professor was bad?

our professor was just bad, throughout the semester he would repeat “nature prefers disorder”, everything else was just terrible.
You should take philips(idk anything about him) if u like the topic and since he has some good feedback.

Anyone know about scheduling with a time conflict? Can I go to an EECS 203 or EECS 280 lecture that isn’t mine without trouble, and schedule two classes with conflict?

I see. Well, it shouldn’t be a problem to go to the other lecture, assuming they are both taught by the same professor. Honestly, your best bet is probably to just ignore your advisor and take one of the other 100 sections.

If they don’t let me do the CSE sections I’m stuck with 200 (which I don’t want to do), 400, and 800. Can someone tell me about 800, which is called “Engineers making a difference?”

Hey, so they let me take the Music Signal Processing class, with Jeffrey Fessler, which doesn’t have any conflicts with my schedule. Any comments on that one? Even if not, it’s the only CSE one I could fit in, so I’m happy with it.

Anyway, I think the section of EECS 203 filled up about half an hour before I could register. I’m on the wait list. Will I need to contact the professor right now to ask about it, or wait until the fall. It’s a 150+ class, but the discussion might be a problem. Though the one I am wait listed for is 3:30-4:30 on a Friday, I think it was the last one to fill up. If I need to contact him now should I just drop an email, or should I go find him in person.
