Off Campus Apartment Recommendations?

Hey, everyone!

I'm an incoming graduate student (from SoCal) moving to Evanston in September. I was wondering if any of the upperclassmen (and alumni, and parents, and locals) have any recommendations for fairly affordable 1BR apartments either within a 15-20 minute walking distance to campus or convenient to a shuttle stop?

I think the absolute most I'm willing to spend would be $1200/month including utilities, but this would require an exceptional apartment; I'm thinking of staying within the $1000-$1050 range after utilities if possible. I have a slight preference for Downtown, but Ryan field wouldn't necessarily be a bad choice either.

Most likely I'm not going to have a car, so parking isn't an issue.

Also, I've tried contacting Kellogg's off-campus resources, but they just pointed me towards graduate housing and the ApartmentPeople/Craigslist, so it wasn't as much help as I was hoping for!

Thanks much for any help.

There’s apartments all along Ridge Ave. a couple blocks west of campus, which are popular among students and reasonably priced. I also know some kids living downtown or south of downtown–there are apartments along Chicago Ave.
Can’t point you to any specifics, though.

I hear Sherman and Noyes has some nice places.

Almost all undergrads will be in multi-bedroom units.
