Off Campus Apartments

Any suggestions for off campus apartments? My D is a freshman at Mizzou this year and wants to live in an apartment with friends next year.

I’m sure your daughter will hear about places by word of mouth. There are lots of them. For two years my son lived in Copper Beech (on Old Hwy 63)–two to four large bedrooms, each with bath, plus a large living and kitchen area. Downtown apartments are more expensive but obviously more convenient. Though CB wasn’t cheap, it cost less than a dorm and meal plan because he cooks. The university-run apartment complex where he lived sophomore year was more expensive because he had to have a meal plan. He had a car; bus service was not reliable and frequent enough for his needs. (I understand there have been improvements this year, however.) I believe there’s a section of the residential life website that deals with off-campus housing.

Hi…I just saw your post - hopefully your daughter has found housing for next year. My son is a junior. He lived at the Campus Lodge the past 2 years and is moving across the street to Copper Beach this summer. (Waving at Geezermom !)

What I like about these apartment complexes is the extensive bus/shuttle program. It runs every 20 min at Campus Lodge to/from campus until about 5:30 pm. My son doesn’t have to deal with traffic or get a parking permit now. If he needs to be on campus later, he can park at a meter. Garages are free at night and on weekends.

Campus Lodge is a flat fee, top floor was $445. It includes all utilities, parking spot, use of pool, weight room, etc. My son’s unit had a kitchen, living room, washer/dryer , patio and 4 separate bedrooms with their own bathroom. Leases are signed by the individual, so it doesn’t effect anyone else if they don’t pay their rent. Nice since you don’t necessarily ‘know’ the roommates.

Copper Beach are townhomes & does not include utilities and is around $500. Their bus runs either once on the hour or half hour (I don’t remember). Don’t know too much about it yet. It has individual leases, but not the same way as Campus Lodge.

Anyone else know anything about any of the other complexes?

Brookside - these may be too $$. I saw one of their complexes had a fire in 2012 - yikes! But the new downtown ones would be super convenient - especially because she will be a pre-J major.

The Reserve?
The Cottages?
The Domain?

My daughter will be a sophomore transfer and we are from NY. She knows not a soul in Missouri - so the roommate matching is key. I just don’t want her to end up in some complex feeling not a part of things.

She will be trying out for cheer squad in May - hoping that all works out and she can start making some friends that way. They will have a few practices and a camp over the summer.
