My daughter and her dog are looking for safe housing locations in and around New Haven. She will also have a room-mate but wants to find a good place that will accept her dog. Any suggestions????

Is your daughter a freshman next year? If so, she is required to live on campus (unless there’s some extraordinary circumstances).

^

I’m guessing it’s for a summer program.

@Minimom2: If your daughter’s a freshman, she can live off campus only if she’s at least 21 or married.

When is this for? If it’s for summer, it’s absolutely too late to have much choice at all – check Craigslist for sublets.

If she’s going to be a freshman, she’s going to live on campus for her first two years unless she’s over 21 or married.

If she’s going into grad school, it’s still pretty late to be getting housing now – a lot of the good stuff was already snapped up – but it largely depends on how much money you’re willing to fork over, and how close to campus she wants to be.

If you’re willing to pay quite a bit, there are some really nice apartment complexes close to campus in safe neighborhoods. Cheaper, but sketchier – and still close to campus – are the houses on Howe, Lynwood, Park, Orange and Edgewood.

If she’s a grad student, a lot of them live up near East Rock, which is full of lovely neighborhoods and affordable housing. However, walking up there alone at night is a big no-no (some sketchy areas between campus and East Rock), so she’d be taking a shuttle after dark.

She doesn’t appear to be a fr at Y:

Oh, jiminy. Isn’t this pleasant news? My wandering child isn’t even back home yet from her month of lollygagging. I’ve been doing some looking but still haven’t found anything too great… that she can afford, that is. I guess I have to ask…with great trepidation…which are the really nice complexes near campus and <shudder> how much is “quite a bit”? </shudder>

I posted on another thread that I’m finding decent places with two pricing levels:

1) Sucks.

2) Ain’t gonna happen.

Looks like we’re gonna have to go with sucks. :(

Hey, sorry for the delay in replying to all of you - had some grad parties and a week of vacation. Anyway, daughter found out she’s been accepted for an intern position at Yale but can’t make any plans until all the ‘security checks’ are complete and is waiting for Yale to give her names of other new interns for possible room mates. Yeah, I know it’s very late in the game for housing but it is what it is. Thanks for any input.
