Off-campus housing during summer

I am moving out of the dorms for this coming spring semester. I went to talk about switching over my financial aid, and they informed me that they don't give any money over the summer unless i'm taking summer classes. I have no need, nor desire, to take classes over the summer. I am wondering, how to people with off-campus aid pay for it over summer vacation? Do they just get a full time job?

thanks.

wait...what? I don't understand.

You want to school to pay for your summer vacation, even if you're doing jack?? lol what?

haha, no, I'm asking what people usually do. Do they move out of the place until the end of summer, then get a new place, or get a jobs, or what?

wouldnt it be your preference? cause you could go back home and get a new place later or stay at berk area and get a job to support the rent.

If you plan to stay in Berkeley, get a job and rent a room at a frat house.

If you are asking about renting housing off campus, yes most of them require a 12 month lease, but if you divide the total price by the months you are in school, it still costs less per month than the dorm- though the financial aid dept also gives you a lower budget.

Hi -

I am a current Cornell student (will be a rising senior), and will be working in downtown (SoMa) SF this summer but might live near UCB since its basically as close as most of SF to where I’ll be working. Could any current UCB students point me in the direction of sublets or other housing resources besides Craigslist? I need it to be within walking distance to BART, and have found a few rooms/studios near the downtown BART in the $700-800 a month range.

Also, how would I get in touch with frats that rent rooms over the summer? That sounds like a cheap option and maybe a good way to meet other students in the area but I don’t know anyone at UCB.

Thanks for any help!
