Off Campus Housing Experience (Terra Nova)

Hey guys - I can tell a lot of people stop posting after they have either been accepted or rejected. It seems as if once they get what they need they don’t post anymore. So, I just wanted to write about my great experience with off campus housing and the belmont area of the bronx in general.

I am a transfer student from southern California (Dana Point, Orange County), and I moved into Terra Nova House about 5 days early. I have a single bedroom in a very spacious apartment. I was expecting a very very small room (being in nyc) and when I walked in, there was a greeting on the door and a much larger than expected living room with a dinner table, a coffee table, and two couches. Slightly off to the left is the kitchen with plenty of space. It has a refrigerator, stove, sink, and a lot of counter space. All the bedrooms have your corresponding letter above the door. I have a key to the outside gates around the apartment building, the key to the specific apartment, and the key to my own bedroom. The bedroom has a window (with bars on it, just fyi), and it’s approximately 8’ x 10’ with a bed, a dresser, and plenty of closet space. The two bathrooms are in the hallway, their doors are across from the bedroom doors. It has all wood floors and was very clean when I walked in. The area around Terra Nova, which is on hoffman street, is all about the school. There are fordham pride flags everywhere. Arthur avenue and the area around it is one street over. This is where Little Italy is and it looks awesome. I haven’t been over there yet, but i definitely plan on it. You can see the gates to the campus from the sidewalk of Terra Nova, it’s only a short walk. Down Fordham road, there’s a best buy, a chipotle, an applebees, and many other franchised stores. It seems as if this section of The Bronx is relatively safe and it feels like a college town, although I have only been here for a few days. As of now, I am very excited to start my life here and everything has exceeded my expectations. The on campus security and the security guard at the gates of Terra Nova have all been extremely helpful as well. Just wanted to update this section of the forum with some hopeful information. Thanks.

Thanks for info. Very helpful

Welcome to Fordham. That area is pretty safe but remember the golden rule: DONT DRINK AND WALK AROUND ALONE LATE AT NIGHT OR GO TO AN ATM AT NIGHT.

Be responsible.

Fordham is a tough school and the workload is challenging. Be prepared to work hard.

I had a friend (also a transfer) who lived there and you are right, it is very nice. But after a semester my friend and her roommate moved into Walsh. While they liked the off campus dorm, they decided they would prefer to get on campus. So, see how things go for you and know that other options may open up for the spring semester if you want them.
Best of luck at Fordham.

How many people lived in the apartment?

Thank you!!
