There are some awful student ghettos around Chapel Hill (i.e., Chapel View). Check all the apartment rating sites and google the complex before signing a lease. There are also some complexes which do a "bait and switch" - they'll show you a nice apartment, but come move-in day, that apartment suddenly isn't available and you have to take whatever is on-hand, usually something run down and in need of "just a few repairs". Problem is, those repairs won't ever get done because they know that you're only there for a year or two.

Chapel View is not bad. Townhouse is a hell hole. And Shadowood, aka "Shadywood" with sexual offenders living there isn't a good place to live...

Yikes. Shadowood was one I printed off internet to show my kid as a possibility (scratch that one). Know anything about the Villages of Chapel Hill--in Carrboro area?

Sorry, don't know anything about The Villages. LadyJournalist - Chapel View IS that bad; I speak from personal experience.
