Off Campus Housing- ?'s for current students

Does anyone have any information about off-campus housing?
-Where are the best areas to be/avoid?
-How hard is it to find a roomate during june/july/august for the academic year?
-What's a reasonable price to pay for a 1BR or 2BR?
-What's the furthest distance you'd reccommend being (i.e miles)
-If you intend to either walk/drive to campus how hard is it to get a parking spot?
-Is it hard to meet people if your just coming into the university as a junior w/ soph. standing?

Thanks!!! any other info you have will be very much appreciated

bump. no one?

It's the last week of classes and if the CC posters are anything like my S they are pretty busy right now. Give them a little more time to respond.

cellardoor, my son is transferring in as a junior also. He will be going to Chapel Hill to look after finals are over. Right now he is thinking about the Carrboro area.

From what I hear you cannot park near campus unless you are lucky and get a permit in the lottery (and I think you must live more than 2 miles or so from campus). The bus system seems to run most everywhere a student might live. Sounds like most students use the bus, some ride bikes.

Here is a link to the bus routes: http://www.ci.chapel-hill.nc.us/index.asp?NID=399

Since it is so close to the school year for arranging fall housing, I think my son is planning to live by himself at least for first semester. However, some of the apartment complexes will put you in a bedroom in an apartment with other students. One I know that will help you with this is The Warehouse. It is just off campus, walking distance, on Rosemary and I think is $550/mo which includes utilities.

Post back if you find any great places!
